I never fooled around with Ferds enough to get to know them very well, but it seems their idiosyncrasies were more often fuel system related.
Good for them !!! Bet that story isn't on the national news >:(
DEL, I'd have some that tongue with some brown mustard on some of your bread
Grits
Del,
Simple explanation for Hominy Grits;
Dried field corn is first soaked (perhaps with some heat) in water with a bit of wood ash (this provides a source of lye in non toxic amounts).
The lye helps softens the tough husk on the individual corn kernels allowing the meat of the kernels to expand, sloughing off husks.
The soft and expanded kernels are referred to as Hominy. After being washed and cleaned they can be eaten as is.
But, these hominy kernels may also be dried. (a modern form of these, with seasonings, maybe found today and call "Beer Nuts".)
Once the hominy is dried, it maybe coarse ground at a grist mill into Grits.
I hope this rather simple explanation offers some help.
My best,
Blair
Beer Nuts are peanuts. Corn Nuts are the Hominy ones.
Del,
My point exactly!
Have you considered asking?
Blair
Everyone knows grits are southern. They come in envelopes. Ya stick the contents of one envelope inna cup, add some water ‘n stick it inna microwave for a minute.
CB& Q?
Figured it was a railroad but wasn't familiar. By the way, I knew how to make hominy. & parched corn. Never tried hominy but you're right about the parched corn & modern dent varieties.
My Mother use to take leftover Grits (not the instant kind) and refrigerate it, made kinda dough,
hand formed in to patties and fry in bacon fat.....
Course today , The "must be good for you" food Nazis would have s**t hemorrhage.
But dang it was good
did the same with leftover mashed potatoes....
I have not had any fried mush since I was a youngster in the Texas Panhandle on the ranch.
You need to put some sorghum molasses on it.
Mornin all! Coffee, tea and iced tea are ready.
In the process of running the numbers, the City has offered a retirement incentive. Trying to see if I can afford to go on December 1st, I was going to retire next December, but if I can go now it would be nice.
Stu, my answer to your, "what do you all put on your grits in the morning?"
Butter, salt & pepper mostly, sometime I crumble bacon in ... or if I have red eye gravy I'll do that.
Some times mixed with the yoke of the sunny side up egg.
Hominy on the other hand, was never in the morning as I recall, it was Mid day or Supper side dish , also with butter, salt & pepper...
Corn meal was for making Corn Bread (Baked in a cast Iron Skillet) served in wedge with butter.
The Cracker Barrel and some others have corn bread in squares and is kinda sweet , it's OK but nothing compared to Moms from the Skillet.
The wife makes Corn Bread Muffins from a mix , It too is sweet , and will do , :-\ just barely.
Del,
Which Gettysburg event are you referring too?
Just a question, but I suspect it will end up being a slam.
Blair
Gettysburg too, huh? Seems as if our esteemed 'leaders' have closed everything. Except the southern border.
Blair, I suspect what Del is referring to is maybe the same WWII vets that took down the barricades and went in the "closed" WWII memorial may do the same thing at Gettysburg.
Someone should propose a bill to suspend the congress' pay and use it to open the parks again. After all, the park people were actually DOING their job, unlike congress.....
Will have to keep an eye out this weekend, there is talk of invading Gettysburg again, but the blues and greys goin' in on the same side. :o Kinda makes me wish I was closer and had the weekend off.
what I got out of it was a group of re-enactors will be going to Gettysburg to cross the barriers that close off the park.
And I wish I could be there, still a maybe, hope it happens,I do also.
And I wish I could be there, still a maybe, hope it happens,

BTW Stu, do you know about the towns 6 miles apart with the same name, Newhaka and Weeping Water mean the same thing but one is Otoe and the other is English.Got one of those here also, Del. I live a mile from Pine River and 7 miles from Poy Sippi. Poy Sippi means Pine River. They are both on the Pine River.

been following the trucker protest, don't look as well organized as the Bike protest a few weeks ago.
I would imagine that's because bikers don't rely on riding their bikes to pay their bills. Was a good idea though, we'll see how it plays out.
TLD,
Not yet...but I sure was worried it "coulda been" ... just feelin' overly protective of my personal stuff & will have control over it in the future even if it means costin' more in fuel to get where I need to be..
I wouldn't give up on that dish altogether, Del, maybe you could just "tweak" it a little bit. Maybe substitute some ground beef for the cottage cheese, walnuts, and fake beef broth, and some bread crumbs for the special K. Add some gravy or tomato sauce over the top and it might be ok!

5 - 6 Cups of Special K Cereal - [I have heard that some people use Corn Flakes but I've never been brave enough to try it!]
Add a little rosemary and just a hint of clove to your homemade chicken soup and see if that gives you the flavor you like.

Leo, my blazer(2002) has a push button to "lock out" the dome light, close to the main light switch. I leave it locked out, since one of my door switches is broken.

The Doctors all told me the shot is not a live virus so it shouldn't make anyone sick. The risk is with the nasal spray version that is a live virus & may give you the mild version of the flu.
Thanks Roo, now I have a song stuck in my head:

Got told Lemol said a bad werd at school yesterday, told rita that I was glad the PC folks hadn't totally got him sucked over, didn't go over well. She didn't know the werd or context, well I need to know that before I judge him, might have been justifiable cussing. ;)
Is there something missing from the forum?
I seem to remember something called the "Longbranch".
Anybody know what is up?
It's still there - latest post a little before noon today.
There's a great group of folks ('cept in one 'm) at the Longbranch. They just tend to take things too serious and can't even get a good poker game going there.
Gonna bug me ‘til I remember. Don’t go many places - the grocery, post office, hardware or the gun shop.
Hospital gift shop ?
Got busy being domestic again this A.M., any coffee left? ::)I'll make another pot since I'm falling asleep in this horspistol room. ::)
That is some serious snowfall! I am glad that I do not live up there.
