In the late 80's Blue Ribbon was still considered the premium beer in Iowa.  It's been second shelf out here for as long as I can remember.  But then agin, Hamms an Oly were also considered "the good stuff" right along side Bud an Coors.  Miller High Life too bafore they started up with that Genuine Draft slop.

Back in 1978, my cuzzin' put new walls on the basement of the house he lived it.  Borrowed a couple a steel beams, on Friday night we got a casea beer and jacked the house up enough to get it off one wall.  Sat he bought a keg and we tore out the wall.  During the week a block layer he knew put in the block.  Was old beer cans stuffed down in the holes of the block we removed.  figgered it was some sort of Pagan ritual and the house would be cursed if'n we didn't do the same. ::)

That's great Del.
Reminds of some years ago when some college kids I knew had what they called "rich man poor man" parties.  Had ta bring beer ta get inta door, but no middle of the road stuff. Had ta be either really pricey or the cheapest.   Couldn't understand the guys that would pick up the Guiness or other expensive ones ta get in when all ya needed was six pack of swill.  It all got dumped into the same cooler.  Sure did appreciate the snobs, felt like we was doublin our money ;D

ya'll ever get a song stuck in yer head can't get it out?

it's just barely tuesday

TUESDAY'S GONE

Train, roll on, on down the line.
Won't you, please, take me far away.
Now I feel the wind blow outside my door.
Means I'm, I'm leaving my woman at home.

Tuesday's gone with the wind.
Oh, my baby's gone with the wind.

And I just don't know, oh, where I'm going.
I just want to be left alone.
Well, when this train ends I'll try again
oh, but I'm leaving my woman at home.

Tuesday's gone with the wind.
Tuesday's gone with the wind.
Tuesday's gone with the wind.
My baby's gone with the wind.
Train, roll on, Tuesday's gone.

Train, roll on many miles from my home.
See I'm, I'm riding my blues away, yeh.
Tuesday, you see, she had to be free.
Lord, but somehow I've got to carry on.

Tuesday's gone with the wind.
Tuesday's gone with the wind.
Tuesday's gone with the wind.
My baby's gone with the wind.
Train, roll on 'cause my baby's gone..
I'm riding my blues away, baby
turn around my blues
ride on, train, ride on, train
ridin' my blues, babe
come back to me, babe
come back to me
oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ooh train..

When I was a kid, the parents always had WTAR on in the mornin’ while they were gettin’ ready fer  werk ‘n me fer school, Then it was on in the car. Didn’t play the music I was wantin’ ta hear.

This come up as bumper music on a talk show. I was surprised. Knew damned near every werd. Bet I ain't heard it in forty years.

Guess there's no use in hangin' 'round
Guess I'll get dressed and do the town
I'll find some crowded avenue
Though it will be empty without you

Can't get used to losin' you no matter what I try to do
Gonna live my whole life thorough-loving you

Called up some girl I used to know
After I heard her say "Hello"
Couldn't think of anything to say
Since you're gone it happens every day

Can't get used to losin' you no matter what I try to do
Gonna live my whole life thorough-loving you

I'll find somebody, wait and see
Who am I kiddin', only me
'cause no one else could take your place
Guess that I am just a helpless case

Can't get used to losin' you no matter what I try to do
Gonna live my whole life thorough-loving you

I can't get used to losin' you no matter what I try to do
Gonna live my whole life thorough-loving

The Oldies Show we listen to on Sunday had this one, their theme was Critters in Country Music, Pirates of the Mississippi from the early 90's.  Always liked it, ain't heard it in years, one mainstream forgot:

I'm standin' at the crossroads in life
And I don't know where to go
You know you've got my heart, babe
But my music's got my soul
Let me play it one more time
Tell the truth and make it right
And hope they understand me

Now I lay me down to sleep
And pray the Lord my soulto keep
If I die before I wake, feed Jake
He's been a good dog
My best friend right through it all
If I die before i wake, feed Jake

Now Broadway's like a sewer
Bums and hookers everywhere
Winos passed out onthe sidewalk
Doesn't anybody care?
Some say "He's worthless, just let him be!
"I for one would have to disagree
And so would their Mama's

Now I lay me down to sleep
And pray the Lord my soulto keep
If I die before I wake, feed Jake
He's been a good dog
My best friend right through it all
If I die before i wake, feed Jake

Now if you get an ear pierced
Some will call you gay
But if you drive a pick-up
They'll say "No, you must be straight!
"What we are and what we ain't
What we can and what we cain't
Does it really matter?

Now I lay me down to sleep
And pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I die before I wake, feed Jake
He's been a good dog
My best friend right through it all
If I die before i wake, feed Jake

Also found the original video on Youtube,  you might want a hanky, the video is sad.  But it does have a Lab in it.

see. now you guys are really going up my alley!  Big Band style!
here's a great one from one of my generation, Michael Buble'... again shows hope for my generation that yes, there are instruments and yes, we should play them!

Birds flying high
You know how I feel
Sun in the sky
You know how I feel
Breeze driftin' on by
You know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good

Fish in the sea
You know how I feel
River running free
You know how I feel
Blossom on a tree
You know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good

Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean, don't you know
Butterflies all havin' fun you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done
That's what I mean
And this old world is a new world
And a bold world
For me

Stars when you shine
You know how I feel
Scent of the pine
You know how I feel
Oh freedom is mine
And I know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me

And I'm feeling good
At 25, you need to follow dreams or you'll regret it later.

Got this one goin’ in my head today, and can’t get it out:

DUST IN THE WIND   Kansas

I close my eyes
Only for a moment, then the momen't gone
All my dreams
Pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind
All they are is dust in the wind Same old song
Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do
Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind, ohh
Now, don't hang on
Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind Dust in the wind
Everything is dust in the wind
Everything is dust in the wind
The wind
