Actually, It's Lester Moran and his Cadillac Cowboys with Ol' Roadhog and Wichita.

The Statlers came out with that album in about 74 or 75.  Riders in the Sky came out with their own version of a Sat. morning radio show.

Leo, found this blub on the internet:

“The scoop is that back in the ’70s The Statler Brothers got together and created this spoof on old school, southern, redneck radio hosted by the brilliant, and ficticious, radio DJ Lester “Roadhog” Moran, and his band The Cadillac Cowboys broadcasted on W.E.A.K.”

Del probably has more background.

Here is that one Leo.

Cherokee fiddle, written by MMM made a hit by Johnny Lee

When the train pulled into the station
He'd open up his case and rosin up his bow
He'd play upside down the Orange Blossom Special
Cause if you want to make a living you've got to put on a good show

And when he'd smell the smoke and the cinders
He'd slick back his hair, and open up his case
He'd play the Cherokee Fiddle, he'd play it for the whiskey
Cause good whiskey never let him lose his place

He was always there, playing for the miners
The Devil's Dream was a song they understood
And then he'd go out to Oklahoma
But he'd wait till the trains were running and the weather was good

And when he'd smell the smoke and the cinders
He'd slick back his hair, and open up his case
He'd play the Cherokee Fiddle, he'd play it for the whiskey
Cause good whiskey never let him lose his place

Now the Indians are dressing up like cowboys
And the cowboys are putting leather and turquoise on
And the music is sold by lawyers
And the fools who fiddled in the middle of the stations are gone

Some folks say they'll never miss him
That old fidNow the Indians are dressing up like cowboys
And the cowboys are putting leather and turquoise on
And the music is sold by lawyers
And the fools who fiddled in the middle of the stations are gonedle squealed like the engines brakes
The Cherokee Fiddle is gone forever
Like the music of the whistle that the old locomotives made

So when you smell the smoke and the cinders
Slick back your hair, and open up your case
Play the Cherokee Fiddle, you can play it for the whiskey
Good whiskey will never let you lose your place
Good whiskey will never let you lose your place

Jack Daniel's will never let you lose your place

True story of a Cherokee from Okalhoma that played in the station for the narrow gauge in Durango Colarado in the 1930's.

I wa jus listen ta that guitar.  Not often ya see a guy do Heartbreaker wearin a suit an a western hat :)  Haven't heard enough of his singin ta make a judgement.  McDonald has a set a pipes that's hard ta beat.

Jr has a twangy 60's country singer voice that can really carry.

Junior got his start in Austin, Texas playing at a place on 6th st. called the Contiental Club. I saw him on an episode on Austin City Limits.  I've seen him at Billy Bobs a couple of times.  My favorite is Highway Patrol, Moose's favorite is You're wanted by the Police and my wife thinks you're dead.  I like the surf medley.  I've got all his CDs.

I've listened ta all them taday.
I like his voice, he woulda fit in well way back.  Voice is a little low in "My Wife Thinks Yer Dead" but it's classic none  the less.  Hiway Patrol is good too.  I want ta give him my money ::)  We need more of this.

Thinkin on it, I'd pay a fat dollar ta hear him do Santo an Johnny's Sleepwalk on that special guitar of his.
That tune always gets me, an I think he would do it justice.  He prolly has, I jus haven't found it yet.

Jr's wife plays guitar with him. They have a guy that plays a stand up bass and a guy that plays a snare drum. That's all the band.  Jr has gotten a new "guitsteel" that is bigger and it is red, he plays both of them during the concert.  Jr sounds kinda like Dave Dudley.  I've seen him twice at Billy Bobs in Fort Worth and once at Gilley's in Dallas.  I hope I can go down to Austin and hear him play at the Contiental Club.

Just listened to the surf medley.  Brought back memories of going to hear Dick Dale and the Deltones at the Blelly Up in Solana Beach CA.
That was when I lived in Oceanside, and was going though my conversion form Beach Dude to Cowboy.  Still like Surf music now and then.
