Arcey she's just a fustrated Rock n Roller   like so many of them in Nashville these days
LR, I think you're right. Apparently that's what sells in Nashville these days.

One reason I won't call 90% of what is on "Country Music', most ain't bad, but call it what it is and put it on a different station so my 10 hours a week in the work dept don't drive me nuts.

When Rita was in the hospital last fall, she had CMT on one time, the short time I was there, one video was shot on Coney Island, another was shot drivin' down some suburb with million dollar type houses, seemed real country to me. ::)

Most of it today sounds like 70's Top 40.

BTW there is a Brooks and Dunn concert in Omaha in Aug, guess who's opening, ZZ Top, sounds Rock and Roll to me, both their music and the fact ZZ Top is the opener. :o

In one way, it makes me think of how it must of been when the original rockabilly started.  Carl Perkins hit no. one on all three charts simultaniously.  On the other hand, that was the birth of somthin new, and eventualy they did get their own radio station.  I can see some Hank Senior fans (yes, hat in hand) lookin at the radio an spittin nails back then.  By the time Gene Vincent an Eddie Cochrane came around, it was it's own format, with The Killer fittin in somewhere in between (scuse me fer not metionin that other guy).

I like rock n roll, an I like old country but this new stuff just don get it fer me.  80 percent of it seems ta be about female empowerment in one form or another.  I'm not against it, it's just a tired theme in "country" music these days.  Yes we know yer sassy and party with the girls and god help the fella that messes around behind yer back.  Oh, an don ferget all the ones that are basically a laundry list of what a man has ta be/do ta have the honor of yer presance.
I hope I didn't offend anyone here, but it had ta be said.

     Rant out

Leo, ya 'sposse that's what Brad's tryin' to tell us 'bout wimmin. ;D

When you see a deer
You see Bambi
And I see antlers up on the wall
When you see a lake
You think picnics
And I see a large mouth up under that log
You’re probably thinkin' that you’re gonna change me
In some ways well, maybe you might
Scrub me down, dress me up
Oh, but no matter what
Remember, I’m still a guy

When you see a priceless French painting
I see a drunk naked girl
You think that ridin' a wild bull sounds crazy
And I’d like to give it a whirl
Well, love makes a man do some things he ain’t proud of
And in a weak moment I might
Walk your sissy dog
Hold your purse at the mall
But remember, I’m still a guy

And I’ll pour out my heart
Hold your hand in the car
Write a love song that makes you cry
Then turn right around
Knock some jerk to the ground
‘Cause he copped a feel as you walked by

I can hear you now talkin' to your friends
Sayin' yeah girls he’s come a long way
From draggin' his knuckles and carryin' a club
And buildin' a fire in a cave
But when you say a backrub means only a backrub
Then you swat my hand when I try
Well now what can I say at the end of the day
Honey, I’m still a guy

And I’ll pour out my heart
Hold your hand in the car
Write a love song that makes you cry
Then turn right around
Knock some jerk to the ground
‘Cause he copped a feel as you walked by

These days there’s dudes gettin' facials
Manicured, waxed, and botoxed
But with deep spray on tans and creamy lotioney hands
You cain’t grip a tackle box
Yeah, with all of these men linin' up to get neutered
It’s hip now to be feminized
But, I don’t highlight my hair
I’ve still got a pair
Yeah, honey I’m still a guy

Oh, my eyebrows ain’t plucked
Theres a gun in my truck
Oh Thank God, I’m still a guy
Yeah boy

Well I love her
But I love the fish
I spend all day out on this lake
And hell is all I catch
But today she met me at the door
Said I would have to chose
If I hit that fishin' hole today
She'd be packin' all her things and she
be gone by noon

Well I'm gonna miss her
When I get home
Right now I'm on this lakeshore
And I'm sittin' in the sun
I'm sure it will hit me
When I walk through that door tonight
Ya I'm gonna miss her
Oh, lookie there, I've got a bite

Now theres a chance
If I hurry
I could beg her to stay
That waters right
And the weathers perfect
No tellin' what I might catch today

So I'm gonna miss her
When I get home
Right now I'm on this lakeshore
And I'm sittin' in the sun
I'm sure it will hit me
When I walk throught that door tonight
Ya I'm gonna miss her
Oh, lookie there, I've got a bite.

That's a good one.  He did a duet with Hank jr at the CMT awards--wasn't half bad.

I've got XM radio in my GMC P/U.  Channel 13 is called "Willie's Place, they don't play music recorded after about 1968.  They play alot of Hank SR, ET, Merle, Possum, Willie, and Lefty. That's about the only channel I listen to.  We have a local station in DFW called Lone Star   92.5.   They play Willie, Southern Rock, ZZTop,  SRV and Double Trouble, and a lot  of   60's rock.

All I listen to on the air durin’ the week is talk. Weekends when the talk isn’t interestin’ I program my own stuff with CDs. Couple pards went satellite. I went on line ‘n looked at the line ups. I wouldn’t use it so I ain’t bought it. Saw the NASCAR talk shows but it’s all the same news ‘n rumors I read everyday on the ‘net ‘n it would conflict with my other listenin’ habits.

Got free satellite for a year with the Car, it's about to run up.  I like it but don't want to pay the fee, I am sure I'll be out voted by the principle driver of the car. ::)  If I don't like what I am hearing there's always Raw Dog or Blue Collar Comedy channels or Marquritaville cafe

I like the satellite radio when I'm on the road driving by myself. I really like Willie's Place on XM cause I like old country and western swing.

Here Tex one Willie cover of Ole Bob Willis

My window faces the south I'm almost halfway to heaven
Snow is falling but still I can't see fields of cotton calling to me
My window faces the south and though I am far from the Swanee
I'm never frownin' or down in the mouth my window faces the south

My window faces the south...

I'd like sattelite for that reason, but I can use that money elsewhere.

Here's a great one:

Hold tight with a leather fist
Watch out when he starts to twist
What their daddies' used to tell them boys
How to ride them bulls
I got a jingle in my jeans
Sore places in between
And I'm leavin' on a saw blade
With a push and a pull

10-4 buddy come on back
A horse trailer on a Cadillac
Yeah we're talkin' to the cowboy
In the Coupe De Ville
Chug-a-luggin' up one side
Slidin' down the other
Well I'm a lover of the other side of the hill

Turn up that radio
Don't wanna think about a rodeo
Don't wanna think about a round-up
Up in old Cheyenne
Well it's a crazy circuit
Ahh but still you work it
Turn down that sound, boys
Let's get up and check the scan

10-4 buddy come on back
A horse trailer on a Cadillac
Yeah we're talkin' to the cowboy
In the Coupe De Ville
Chug-a-luggin' up one side
Slidin' down the other
Well I'm a lover of the other side of the hill

Bandana hangin' on the mirror
Still wet from ear to ear
Well I guess it's true then
What the wise men say
When you ride your last one
Make sure he's the best one
Jump while he's movin'
Tip your hat boys and walk away

10-4 buddy come on back
A horse trailer on a Cadillac
Yeah we're talkin' to the cowboy
In the Coupe De Ville
Chug-a-luggin' up one side
Slidin' down the other
Well I'm a lover of the other side of the hill

10-4 buddy come on back
A horse trailer on a Cadillac
Yeah we're talkin' to the cowboy
In the Coupe De Ville
Chug-a-luggin' up one side
Slidin' down the other
Well I'm a lover of the other side of the hill
Well I'm a lover of the other side of the hill

I was listening to his CD today - very enjoyable!  Since I heard Jerry Jeff sing that song first I always think of him.

I heard a sure nuf good one today,  I always enjoy it.

The year was ’67, National Finals Rodeo
December 1’s the Friday night that all bull riders know
There’s cowboy heroes made & born at rodeos like this
Cause the cowboys are the toughest & the stock’s the best there is

And then Pete announced that in chute 2’s a cowboy we all know
He’s a young man now, he’s 46 and he’s made him a mighty draw
His bull is from Jim Shoulder’s string, Tornado’s how he’s known
Yes, Freckles Brown has drawd a bull no one has ever rode

And tonight bullridin’ history’s made a cowboy, gained a crown
His bull was called Tornado and the cowboy, Freckles Brown

He lowered himself on dark red hide and pulled his bull rope tight
He wrapped her twice and jerked her hard, made sure he pulled her right
Then two big ole’ shiny horns looked Freckles in the eye
Then a snort ‘n a nod, the chute gate swung, as Freckles yelled, “Let’s ride!”

Two thousand pounds of boilin’ hell was turnin’ wrong-side out
And showin’ four feet to the Lord and givin’ Freckles hell
Eight thousand fans were on their feet, but he couldn’t hear a lick
Cause the only sound he listened for was the buzzer, then he quit

And tonight bullridin’ history’s made a cowboy, gained a crown
His bull was called Tornado & the cowboy, Freckles Brown

It seemed the world exploded, as Freckles hit the ground
He swung his hat around his head and he shouted with the crowd
A cowboy hero was born that day and Freckles totes the load
Two hundred times that bull had bucked, the first time he’d been rode

Now, while we’re givin’ credit, cause we know the credit’s due
Freckles is a hero, but Tornado gets some, too
Cause without that bull to show him off, no cowboy’s got a call
And the only time he’ll ever win is to get lucky in the draw

So, if bull’s have got a Heaven and somehow we’re sure they do
I hope Tornado’s up there and that the Lord has let him through
I hope his pasture’s the greenest and his stock tank’s never dry
And I hope he lives forever on bunch grass, belly high
We done it for Dixie,  nothing else

My wife's cousin is an old rodeo rider from the 50s and 60s. He was one of Freckles's pallbearers. He did some stunt work in the movies. He was Duke's double in the COWBOYS. He was in a bunch more movies. He used to travel with Casey Tibbs when they Rodeoed together.  He's got a ranch out in AZ but we haven't seen him in a whiles. He's probably in his 80s.  His name is George Williams.

Heard the Freckels Brown song the other day on the radio, there is an oldies show from somewhere on sundays.  Last night the theme was "songs with strange titles" Like "You Can't Roller Skate in a buffalo Herd" and "Thank God and Greyhound You're Gone." ;D

OK, her's a blast from the past, open to discussion, yes I know the story.  Used to listen to this played by Charlie Douglas onWWL New Orleans late night. :)

Sorry, that was the best picture I cound get, had to search like heck for that.
