Now when I was young my
momma read me nursery rhymes beside my bed
though they sounded mighty fine they made no sense to me
now that i am all grown up it seems my nights have changed such
so i went out and made me up a nursery rhyme for me

Chorus
It goes barlight bar bright
first bar that i see tonight
wish i may wish i might
find someone to hold me tight
hey diddle diddle a man with a fiddle and the
girls sings along with the tune
just a one more dance til you turn off the lights and
you can shut down this saloon

Well I never understood
how a big ole gal could raise no kids in a shoe
and any old jack that goes jumping a candle
needs to find something better to do
rub a dub dub 3 men in a tub sure sounds kinda funny to me
so I made up a honky tonk nursery rhyme
and it's the only one I'll sing

Repeat Chorus

Well i never understood
how a big ole gal could raise no kids in a shoe
and any old jack that goes jumping a
candle needs to find something better to do
rub a dub dub 3 men in a tub sure sounds kinda funny to me
so I made up a honky tonk nursery rhyme
and it's the only one I'll sing

It's been stuck in my head for a day or so....another one of them Texas fellas

Was talkin’ with daughter number two yesterevenin’. She was goin’ on ‘bout a kid she’s havin’ problems with in school. Sounded ta me like he was seekin’ his own direction. Ain’t believin’ I sang ‘er a song, Ain’t done that since she was a l’il thing.

Flowers are Red
by Harry Chapin

The little boy went first day of school
He got some crayons and started to draw
He put colors all over the paper
For colors was what he saw
And the teacher said.. What you doin' young man
I'm paintin' flowers he said
She said... It's not the time for art young man
And anyway flowers are green and red
There's a time for everything young man
And a way it should be done
You've got to show concern for everyone else
For you're not the only one
And she said...
Flowers are red young man
Green leaves are green
There's no need to see flowers any other way
Than they way they always have been seen
But the little boy said...
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one
Well the teacher said.. You're sassy
There's ways that things should be
And you'll paint flowers the way they are
So repeat after me.....
And she said...
Flowers are red young man
Green leaves are green
There's no need to see flowers any other way
Than they way they always have been seen
But the little boy said...
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one
The teacher put him in a corner
She said.. It's for your own good..
And you won't come out 'til you get it right
And are responding like you should
Well finally he got lonely
Frightened thoughts filled his head
And he went up to the teacher
And this is what he said.. and he said
Flowers are red, green leaves are green
There's no need to see flowers any other way
Than the way they always have been seen
Time went by like it always does
And they moved to another town
And the little boy went to another school
And this is what he found
The teacher there was smilin'
She said...Painting should be fun
And there are so many colors in a flower
So let's use every one
But that little boy painted flowers
In neat rows of green and red
And when the teacher asked him why
This is what he said.. and he said
Flowers are red, green leaves are green
There's no need to see flowers any other way
Than the way they always have been seen.

Was kindah surprised I remembered most the lyrics. It’s been a long time.

one of them bluegrass homesick tunes

When I was young and in my prime (in my prime!),
I left my home in caroline.
Now all I do is sit and pine, for all those folks I left behind.

I got the blue ridge mountain blues, and I sat right here to say,
"my grip is packed to travel, and I’m back to ramble,
To my blue ridge far away."

I’m goin’ to stay right by my pa, I’m goin’ to do right by my ma,
I’ll hang around the cabin door, no work or worry anymore.

I got the blue ridge mountain blues, goin’ to see my old oak tree,
Gonna hunt the possum where the corn cob blossom,
In my blue ridge far away.
Woo!

I see a haze of snowy white, I see a window with light,
I seem to hear them both sigh, "where is my wand’rin boy tonight? "

I got the blue ridge mountain blues, and I stay right here to say,
"every day I’m countin’ ’til I climb that mountain,
In my blue ridge far away."
We done it for Dixie,  nothing else

"I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved."

OK,
     Need some help here ::)
I was thinkin about a song that came out in the late 80's that I thought was called "The Box"  It was about a father who passed on but none of the family realized how much he loved them until they found and opened a box he kept all his special things in.  I did a search and had no luck.  If any y'all know the song, I'd be much obliged ta ya.

I saw them once about seven years ago here in Greensboro.  The crowd wasn't nearly as large, though.  They partitioned the coliseum "special events center" (not even as large as the main coliseum) and they still only filled half of the seating capacity.  It was still good music, though.

I hear on the news today that Dr Huffman, the inventor of LSD has passed on, age 102....makes me what else he was spearmintin' with ??? :o ??? ::)

Purple haze all in my brain
Lately things just dont seem the same
Actin funny, but I dont know why
scuse me while I kiss the sky
Purple haze all around
Dont know if Im comin up or down
Am I happy or in misery?
What ever it is, that girl put a spell on me
Help me
Help me
Oh, no, no
[faint, spoken lyrics...all questionable]
Hammerin
Talkin bout heart n...s-soul
Im talkin about hard stuff
If everbodys still around, fluff and ease, if
So far out my mind
Somethings happening, somethings happening
Ooo, ahhh
Ooo, {click} ahhh,
Ooo, ahhh
Ooo, ahhh, yeah!
Purple haze all in my eyes, uhh
Dont know if its day or night
You got me blowin, blowin my mind
Is it tomorrow, or just the end of time?
Ooo
Help me
Ahh, yea-yeah, purple haze, yeah
Oh, no, oh
Oh, help me
Purple haze, tell me, baby, tell me
I cant go on like this
Purple haze
Youre makin me blow my mind...mama
Purple haze, n-no, nooo
Purple haze, no, its painful, baby

I have got a remastered CD of the Purple Haze album. It sounds even better than the original, especially the National Anthem.

Got in the mood for som Hoyt,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Axton that is. ;D

Most folks have heard songs he wrote, but little he sang, wrote a lot the onesThree Dog Night and Steppenwolf did.

BTW his Mama wrote Heartbreak Hotel. :)

It was Della and a dealer and a dog named Jake,
And a cat named Kalamazoo,
Left the city in a pick-up truck.
Gonna make some dreams come true.
Yeah, they rolled out west where the wild sun sets,
And the coyote bays at the moon.
Della and a dealer and a dog named Jake,
And a cat named Kalamazoo.

If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,
About Della and the Dealer and the dog as well.
But the cat was cool,
And he never said a mumblin' word.

Down Tucson way there's a small cafe,
Where they play a little cowboy tune.
And the guitar picker was a friend of mine,
By the name of Randy Boone.

Yeah, Randy played her a sweet love song,
And Della got a fire in her eye.
The Dealer had a knife and the dog had a gun,
And the cat had a shot of rye.

If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,
About Della and the Dealer and the dog as well.
But the cat was cool,
And he never said a mumblin' word.

Yeah, the Dealer was a killer; he was evil and mean,
And he was jealous of the fire in her eyes.
He snorted his coke through a century note,
And he swore that Boone would die.

And the stage was set when the lights went out,
There was death in Tucson town.
Two shadows ran for the bar back door,
But one stayed on the ground.

If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,
About Della and the Dealer and the dog as well.
But the cat was cool,
And he never said a mumblin' word.

If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,
About Della and the Dealer and the dog as well.
But the cat was cool,
And he never said a mumblin' word.

Two shadows ran from the bar that night,
And a dog and a cat ran too.
And the tires got hot on the pickup truck,
As down the road they flew.

It was Della and her lover and a dog named Jake,
And a cat named Kalamazoo.
Left Tucson in a pickup truck.
Gonna make some dreams come true.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,
About Della and the Dealer and the dog as well.
But the cat was cool,
And he never said a mumblin' word.

Course I think we can all relate to this one by the Bellamy Brothers to some degree or another. ::)ourse the song itself is over 20 years old. :o

He turned thirty-five last Sunday
In his hair he found some gray
But he still ain't changed his lifestyle
He likes it better the old way
So he grows a little garden in the back yard by the fence
He's consuming what he's growing nowadays in self defense
He get's out there in the twilight zone
Sometimes when it just don't make no sense

He gets off on country music
Cause disco left him cold
He's got young friends into new wave
But he's just too friggin' old
And he dreams at night of Woodstock and the day John Lennon died
How the music made him happy and the silence made him cry
Yeah he thinks of John sometimes
And he has to wonder why

He's an old hippie and he don't know what to do
Should he hang on to the old
Should he grab on to the new
He's an old hippie...his new life is just a bust
He ain't trying to change nobody
He's just trying real hard to adjust

He was sure back in the sixties that everyone was hip
Then they sent him off to Vietnam on his senior trip
And they forced him to become a man while he was still a boy
And in each wave of tragedy he waited for the joy
Now this world may change around him
But he just can't change no more

He's an old hippie and he don't know what to do
Should he hang on to the old
Should he grab on to the new
He's an old hippie...his new life is just a bust
He ain't trying to change nobody
He's just trying real hard to adjust

Well, he stays away a lot now from the parties and the clubs
And he's thinking while he's joggin' 'round
Sure is glad he quit the hard drugs
Cause him and his kind get more endangered everyday
And pretty soon the species will just up and fade away
Like the smoke from that torpedo...just up and fade away

He's an old hippie and he don't know what to do
Should he hang on to the old
Should he grab on to the new
He's an old hippie...his new life is just a bust
He ain't trying to change nobody
He's just trying real hard to adjust

Reminds me, I need to go out and put some Round-Up out in my backyard, by the fence. :o
