Hey Rawhide Rio, you may not post much, but you sure do spell good!  "Camaraderie" I'm impressed!  Is there a spell check on here I don't know about?

Naw, got a little spelling dictionary by the PC that I have to use once in a while. ;D

Thanks MF but I'm afraid there's not much hope for me.  I do OK until my fingers move faster than my brain.  That happens alot.  Kinda sad though considering I type with two fingers.

I joined because I too felt it was the right thing to do.  It took me several years before I did because I couldn't figure out an alias.  Why do I stay a member..........Cause I want to.  When I joined, I was the first person with the first name of McCoy...registered is McCoy's Mate.  I also, someday, would like to see my daughter, Gemstone, to be able to apply and hopefully get some SASS scholarship money.   If'n ya don't want to rejoin, just earmark your money to the scholarship fund and some young'n will benefit in the end.

I've always been a Cowboy at heart, believed I was born 100 years too late.  Couple of years ago  I bought a Lever gun, Marlin 1894C.  I was looking for a local place to shoot it and in the process stumbled on the SASS web site.  I thought "man thats for me"  found a local club that shot CAS and I was hooked.  I LIKE SASS!  I like my shinny Gold Badge, I like gittin the Chronicle, I like having a standard set of rules that I can shoot anyplace in the county and everyone is playing by the same rules.  I like that SASS, through there advertising, news paper, web site and TV shows are helping each and every one of us by bringing more people into the sport which increases club memberships, and makes more equipment available to use from manufactures at more reasonable prices,   I don't always agree with everything they do but I don't always agree with everything my friends/family do, don't mean I'm going to bail on them or bash them.

Howdy Camille and all others!

I heard about SASS in 1999 and got hooked on the idea.  I got my annual membership and before the year was up, I went to a Life membership.

Since then, I've discovered NCOWS and enjoy it even more.  (Most of our club's members are SASS members, too.)  I enjoy the shooting of SASS and the authenticity and shooting of NCOWS.

I kind of wandered in... ;D Seriously, I had been doing living history for a number of years (Civil War, Indian Wars, WWI, etc.) and a couple of friends go me into it- that was about 1995. My wife and I sold at a number of EOTs under the name McKechnie Mercantile and I used to run a faro table in the Belle Union. It was some pretty good fun until things began to change...since then I sort of moved on- bought a horse and I'm slowly training him for mounted shooting (and getting a first class education in the "mind" of the horse  ::)).

I'm probably the only one here who actually has never shot in formal match- just never got around to it and I prefer to shoot with friends with no time pressures or anything. Maybe oneday... ;D

Yep, me too! But I do shoot monthly matches at Rio when the weather is cool, but a few family members & pards try to get out at least once a month for our own "match". (no timers)

I went to a match with MM, saw how much fun he had and wanted to have the same fun.  He signed me up for my first year and I went lifer this year.  He picked the alias, guns, outfit, made the leather rig... pretty much everything else except the boots and hat.  Been hooked on the sport and the people ever since!  Did the lifer thing because it seemed the thing to do.

I joined because it is the only place I can dress the way I want to dress, ride my horse and shoot my gun and they will not lock me up for being nutz!  ;D
And I have a group of friends that enjoy doing it with me

I joined 'cause it seemed like the thing to do.  It seemed like it was the only organization out there that sanctioned these events.  Now I stay a member so I can go to some of the regionals and Winter Range.  Not much interest in going to EOT.  It is getting too big.  I don't like large crowds.   I like the Chronicle too.  Yea there is the politics what with rules changes and such, but I tend to ignore that stuff.  It doesn't affect me one way or the other.

Because they let me join... ;D

I joined way back in 97, I should have gone Life back then,But didn't. I would be ahead of the game money wise by now. I will go life some time soon because I believe that CAS brings out good people with like interests and I like that.

For the camaraderie.

...this from a guy who doesn't post very much.          ;D

I might add this to my orginial post:

CAS folk, whether they be in SASS, NCOWS, W3Gun or just Mavericks, are some of the finest folk in the world. We all have a common bond, our love for the Old West. Some of us would live it 24/7 if we could. We all may get burrs under our saddles once in awhile, but all in all, CAS people are just good folk and I am glad to be one of them!
