.38 S&W components?

Anyone have sources for components for reloading .38 s&w?
Even factory loaded, preferably black powder.

Midsouth Shooters Supply has some Magtech smokeless loads.  I bought some last spring.  They go bang every trigger pull.  I still want to find some BP loads for my older pocket pistols.

RCJ:

I had to buy factory Remington loads to get the brass.  On of the case rims was either too thick or the bullet is not seated to depth.  It locked up my S&W tighter than a drum as Pancho can attest.  So much for QC at Remington.  I have reloaded some in BP but have not fired them yet.  Both of my .38 S&Ws predated 1889.  I am afraid buying factory bullets is the only way to aquire brass.

Pancho, I have a box of BP 38 S&W loaded that I will share with you next time we do pocket pistol.

Fellows, A few days ago someone on the SASS wire had 38 S&W brass for sale. Star Line brass carries 38 S&W brass all the time. Think it's about $75 for 500. Check their web sight out. Tj

Got some big lube (TM) bullets from Springfield Slim and loaded my Starline brass with a case full of BP!  Work just fine!

This is the cutie that has captured my heart.

I seem to have acquired three pocket pistols in .38S&W caliber within the last six months, but this one has me thinking about creating a new persona around it, and perhaps shooting this as a main match pistol.

RCJ;  Nice piece!  On one of your other threads on this topic, someone suggested using cut-off .38 Special cases,  I think it would work great, at least to make some noise sooner rather than later.

Think you will find that a 38 S&W case and a 38 spl. case are different in dia.  Although the bullet itself is the same dia. Tj

TJack;  I know they are different.  The S&W is a tapered case, while the Special is straight.  I think that the only drawback, if it is actually detrimental, is that the case just forward of the web will bulge a bit to fit the chamber.  If it needs sizing after firing, use a 9mm Luger die to just squeeze the neck in enough to allow inside expanding to hold the bullet.

Not perfect, but it can work.

I've got on backorder a box of 50 .38s&w by Ten-X from Midway that will be in maybe end of January. That will give me something in BP to shoot, and the brass to reload afterwards. About decided on using same slug I already load for .38sp for convenience.
Meanwhile need to get 9mm dies.

Thinking my new persona sure would love to get a cute shoulder holster rig to carry it.

Our Posse shoots Range Detective, two pistols and a rifle. I'm thinking this in a shoulder rig and my 'big iron' on the hip will be the boss!

Also thinking I need to dress all toney, like that pimp Yuma City Kid. ;)

A couple weeks ago, I shot one of my original .38 S & Ws in a match.  It only holds 5 shots, but the hammer can be safely lowered between the rims.  This is a safe acceptable method per NCOWS rules.

Here is my latest acquisition (M887 Swedish Nagant), have purchased some 7.5mm brass, wanted to wait until I got the revolver in hand to determine what bullets I need. I was able to adjust my 32/20 dies to load up a few test rounds.
Barrel length of 4.5" puts it outside of a pocket pistol, but it is a six shooter.

Books,
this double action has a built in rebounding hammer that only goes all the way down at the end of the trigger pull cycle,- once you release the trigger forward the hammer backs out to clear the face of the recoil shield on the inside surface.
I can load all five chambers and still be safe.

RCJ, I have a nickle S&W top break in 38 s&w. I have shot a lot of factory ammo and some reloads through it. Seems to be a strong gun that handles the ammo well. Tj
