Gordon, my wife enjoyed the get together you and yours! And yes the discussion was both helpful and informative. The only drawback to it all is that now I really want to get my hands on a Colt Walker 1847 repro...  ;D

Well, when you get it, we'll have to get together to do some shooting; I'll pull mine out, along with the Dragoon.  Lord I love shooting those big bruisers!  Smoke! Noise! Recoil! Joy!

BTW, for a nice website on guys who have a great reenactment group for the 11th Cav, check out this:
http://www.11uscavalry1940.com/

I used to ride with them when I was in California.  Nice group of guys, and heck, gotta love mixing horses with M1911's!

Cheers!

Gordon

Thanks Gordon....I will let you know about the Colt Walker. I am actively pursuing getting one right now, so hopefully I will have one before Spring.

That 11th US Cav web site is awesome, thank you!

On an orignal note, I have made some headway on the persona quandry. After receiving some good advice (St. George) I am going to tie in my own personal history but with an obvious fictional twist. The twist is that I didnt actually exist in the time period, but I am going tailor my actuall personal experinces in the Cavalry (Cav Scout) and in Law Enforcement with where I am currently residing and my current profession. I dont have the details fleshed out but I have actually made some progress. Thanks to all for your input as its been helpful.

I was a tank commander, cruised the Yakima Desert in Wa. No flat land there.

Bro. Slick, My friend Steel Horse Bailey knows alot about that dust in Tanks. He spent some time in the Sand Box in the First Gulf War. He's also filling out an application to become a Brother.

TONS of it.  But I was never in Wash.

Indeed.  My goal is to be inducted into Hiram's Rangers ASAP - MAYBE during the upcoming NCOWS National shoot.

******************************

But we'd better get back to the great 11th Cavalry persona ... or the one NW Griz has decided upon.  It would have been ME asking about portraying an 11th Trooper, 'cept for that pesky detail about them not EXISTING until 1901!

 ;)

So, I went with the OTHER Cavalry unit I was with:  the 4th Cavalry.  They've been around quite a while.

IIRC, when the Dragoons & Mounted Rifles were phased out the 1st Dragoons became the 1st Cavalry, the 2nd Dragoons became the 2nd Cavalry, the Mounted Rifles became the 3rd Cavalry and the 1st Cavalry became the 4th Cavalry.  This was the order of their original establishment.  Quite a bit less confusing than in 1815 when the Army dropped from 44 Inf. Regt's to 8 and assigned Regimental numbers by the seniority of the Colonel who commanded them.  The First Regiment became part of the 3rd. Regimnet and are called the "Old Guard" to this day.  Probably a lot more information than you wanted to know!! ::) ;) :D
