A long time ago the New Christy Minstrels sang one of my favorite songs...
Liza Lee  (no relation I dont think Miz Lee)

"soft winds blowing across the sea
carry the music of heaven to me
Think I hear the the fair maiden sing
sweetly sings my liza lee
Liza lee, Liza lee, sure as the morning dew,
sure as the sun rizes again
..........and here is where my mental block locked the door.
anyone remember the rest of the words..

sorry I haven't been posting, but the inmates and the staff are getting the best of me here...off for 2 weeks and play catchup for a dang month

I too have the album. it is on the same album as Preacher and the Bear and Denver and has a picture of them on the front in front of the Trubador inLA

I just wanted to see if anyone else knew the song...

guess they didn't...was kinda obscure.

I'm sorry, Curley, you caught me on this one, I didn't know it. But I am glad things are easing up enough for you to post once in a while. You've been missed!

Once again Miz Lee thank you for the concerns. I was just telling Old Top about what I have been dealing with here. I have an employee that hired on 02/05 (that's what 3 months?) and has used to date 169.5 hours sick time.(that is 22.3 days) so I have to put a packet to fire that person. In fact I did one on another person last nite...

Besides that my ribs REALLY hurt today..pain meds are barely touching it.

BUT, me and Top are going shooting on Sunday so things arent all bad.

Don't you remember the New Christy Minstrels?  "Green Green" and all that..

one of yer hugs would go nice...(gently of course..)

I've heard that one somewhere, just not sure where or when.

When I'm helping Rita's neice with her day care, I write during nap time.  Well I dicovered that their saddle-lite TV also has that Sirrus radio.  Fell in love with Station 36, Outlaw Country, every thing fron Warren Zeban, Jimmy Rogers, Leon Russell,  DAC Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, John Prine and of course Hank the Great. ;D  Well they played a rockin' version of this on today, but I like Hanks original version better although Leon Russell cut a good cover in 1972.

Lost Highway

I'm a rolling stone, all alone and lost,
For a life of sin, I have paid the cost.
When I pass by, all the people say
"Just another guy on the lost highway."

Just a deck of cards and a jug of wine
And a woman's lies make a life like mine.
Oh, the day we met, I went astray,
I started rollin' down that lost highway.

I was just a lad, nearly twenty-two,
Neither good nor bad, just a kid like you,
And now I'm lost, too late to pray,
Lord, I've paid the cost on the lost highway.

Now, boys, don't start your ramblin' round,
On this road of sin or you're sorrow bound.
Take my advice or you'll curse the day
You started rollin' down that lost highway

The man had good advice, even if he didn't follow it himself.

Alas, I don't know cowboy music, that's why I've been so quiet on this thread.

Did you hear the Rolling Stones have kicked off another tour? Three of the members are over 60 years old. I reckon they'll keep going until one (or more) of them strokes out on stage.

With a very gentle hug for Curley,

The new album is "Not you guys again." ;D

Annie 'member when they asked what kind of music they play in "Bob's country Bunker" in the Blues Brothers Movie, Both kinds, Country and Western.  Lost Highway and Hank the Father are country.  BTW he got his start in Honky Tonks than had the chicken wire around the stage. ;D

Here's another from the man often called the Hillbilly Shakespere.

Hear the lonesome whip-poor-will
He sounds too blue to fly
The midnight train is whining low
I’m so lonesome I could cry

I’ve never seen a night so long
When time goes crawling by
The moon just went behind a cloud
To hide it’s face and cry

Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves begin to die
That means he’s lost the will to live
I’m so lonesome I could cry

The silence of a falling star
Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you are
I’m so lonesome I could cry

I used to turn my nose up to country music... until I actually gave it a listen.

Just like Rock, Folk or Jazz or any other kind of music, there is good country music and there is bad.

Good county music sounds country and it tells a story often sad.  Hiram Hank Williams was perhaps the best at this but many consider this next song the best in country music even if Hank didn't do it.  but George did it and he's good too.

                    He Stopped Loving Her Today

He said I'll love you til I die

She told him you'll forget in time

As the years went slowly by

She still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall

Went half crazy now and then

He still loved her through it all

Hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed

and in 1962

He had underlined in red

Every single I love you

I went to see him just today

Oh but I didn't see no tears

All dressed up to go away

First time I'd seen him smile in years

Chorus:

   He stopped loving her today

They placed a wreath upon his door

And soon they'll carry him away

        He stopped loving her today

You know she came to see him one last time

Oh and we all wondered if she would

And it kept running through my mind

This time he's over her for good

Chorus:...

When this song comes on if you don't feel like crying you have no heart.

In the early hours of January 1st 1953, Hank williams died in the backseat of his Caddy.  What is ironic is the #1 Billboard Country song that week.

I'LL NEVER GET OUT OF THIS WORLD ALIVE
Recorded by Hank Williams
Written by Hank Williams and Fred Rose

Now you're lookin' at a man that's gettin' kind-a mad
I had lot's of luck but it's all been bad
No matter how I struggle and strive
I'll never get out of this world alive.

My fishin' pole's broke the creek is full of sand
My woman run away with another man
No matter how I struggle and strive
I'll never get out of this world alive.

A  distant uncle passed away and  left me quite a batch
And I was livin'g high until that fatal day
A lawyer proved I wasn't born
I was only hatched.---

Ev'rything's agin' me and it's got me down
If I jumped in the river I would prob'ly drown
No matter how I struggle and strive
I'll never get out of this world alive.

These shabby shoes I'm wearin' all the time
Are full of holes and nails
And brother if I stepped on a worn out dime
I bet a nickel I could tell you if it was heads or tails.

I'm not gonna worry wrinkles in my brow
'Cause nothin's ever gonna be alright nohow
No matter how I struggle and strive
I'll never get out of this world alive.

A friend who is a professinal blues musician and I were talkin' a few days after Hank was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Sean told me he just considered him a bluesman with a fiddle and an upright steel in the band.

It is said that Hank is only second to Jesus himself as to being mentioned in songs.  I tend to agree.

Howdy all,

Know I have been "neglectin" this post for awhile, and I don't really have a tune to write down now...It's has been very demanding at the asylum. This week I had to fire 2 staff. Next week I have to testify at a hearing. and it is wearing very thin.

And on the weekend my new GW2 "locked up" on me. So, me and Old Top drove down to EMF, and of course the gunsmith was on vacation (i am starting to sound like 4trod) But, I do know that my gun will be in good hands there...I just will miss it. I am also gettin all the stuff together to start loading my own shotshells.

On the other hand, Old Top got some VERY good news about his '73, be sure to ask him...I don't want to deprive him of the braggin
sorry haven't been postin. have been a little tired at the end of the day, and at the begining for that matter.....
Hows about a hug?
