When I was about 4, we had a neighbor girl came over a couple times when the folks had to go somewhere and my Aunt that lived in town couldn't watch me.

Got a lot of cuzzin's, 15 or 16 I think with out counting, all live within 60 miles of me, most down in Johnson County where the folks were from, had two more but they are now gone.

Ya know they's a whole clan of Coles out in California, went out there around the depression.   My Mom and Uncle went out there for it once. it was held up around Dos Palace, Calif.  they said there were more people turned out for it than would come out around here, and we always had an awful lot of people.

my Dad had 2 sisters,  6 cousins there,  Mom had 9 brothers and Sisters  lots and lots of cousins  ;D

My section of Coles are from Boston area. Pop went to Wyoming and met my ma, then they moved to Tulare CA (where they got worms right now.....)  they came in the early 40's. Pop was in Army. Served at Pearl Harbor for 6 years. Was cookin hot cakes durin the attack. A 2Looy came in and said "don't stand there Do something" My father reportedly replied: What am I supposed to do throw my hot cakes at them???  He used to bump from pvt to sgt and back on a fairly regular basis. I have a bunch of photos of him and friends while at Pearl during that time...very interesting.

My Dad was a B25 pilot, he was originally assigned to B17s.  He joined before the War started. The B17 outfit that he was in was part of the squadron that was sent to Pearl on the day of the attack.  He was sent to McDill early in 42.  While he was there the Doolittle Raiders were training but no one knew it at the time.  After the Raid, the old Raider Squadron was reorganized and made part of the 12th AF. They were sent to N. Africa and sent the rest of the War in the Med area.

Heard this one for the first time tonight.  Don't know how I missed it before. ???

You were born by a railroad track
Never knew your ma and your pa ain't comin' back
Had to make your way the best you can
But you didn't have to steal from another man

Run boy run boy run boy run; they're gonna get you boy run boy run
They're gonna catch you boy run boy run; run boy run boy run boy run

Think you're a man cause you're twenty one
Shot a man for nothin' and away you run
Wanted in most every state from here to Tennessee
If you're caught you'll do your runnin' hangin' from a tree

Run boy run boy run boy run...

Storm clouds lookin' down from the sky
And hangman's noose swingin' on a tree near by
The words on that tombstone that won't be read by you
Says his runnin's done at twenty one he won't see twenty two

Run boy run boy run boy run...

"Finest partner I ever had.  Cleans his paws and buries his leavin's.  Lot more than some folks I know."

Heared this’n t’other day. Gottah be good. There’s a dog, cat ‘n a pickup truck in it.

It was Della and a dealer and a dog named Jake,
And a cat named Kalamazoo,
Left the city in a pick-up truck.
Gonna make some dreams come true.
Yeah, they rolled out west where the wild sun sets,
And the coyote bays at the moon.
Della and a dealer and a dog named Jake,
And a cat named Kalamazoo.

If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,
About Della and the Dealer and the dog as well.
But the cat was cool,
And he never said a mumblin' word.

Down Tucson way there's a small cafe,
Where they play a little cowboy tune.
And the guitar picker was a friend of mine,
By the name of Randy Boone.

Yeah, Randy played her a sweet love song,
And Della got a fire in her eye.
The Dealer had a knife and the dog had a gun,
And the cat had a shot of rye.

If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,
About Della and the Dealer and the dog as well.
But the cat was cool,
And he never said a mumblin' word.

Yeah, the Dealer was a killer; he was evil and mean,
And he was jealous of the fire in her eyes.
He snorted his coke through a century note,
And he swore that Boone would die.

And the stage was set when the lights went out,
There was death in Tucson town.
Two shadows ran for the bar back door,
But one stayed on the ground.

If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,
About Della and the Dealer and the dog as well.
But the cat was cool,
And he never said a mumblin' word.

If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,
About Della and the Dealer and the dog as well.
But the cat was cool,
And he never said a mumblin' word.

Two shadows ran from the bar that night,
And a dog and a cat ran too.
And the tires got hot on the pickup truck,
As down the road they flew.

It was Della and her lover and a dog named Jake,
And a cat named Kalamazoo.
Left Tucson in a pickup truck.
Gonna make some dreams come true.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,

Some a those wimmins ya jus can't trust, though it sounds like Mr Cokehead got what was comin.
Heres a simalar story bout a decent guy got in a gunfight over a gal.

Now somewhere in the black mountain hills of dakota
There lived a young boy named rocky raccoon
And one day his woman ran off with another guy
Hit young rocky in the eye, rocky didnt like that
He said Im gonna get that boy
So one day he walked into town
Booked himself a room in the local saloon

Rocky raccoon checked into his room
Only to find gideons bible
Rocky had come equipped with a gun
To shoot off the legs of his rival
His rival it seems had broken his dreams
By stealing the girl of his fancy
Her name was magil and she called herself lil
But everyone knew her as nancy

Now she and her man who called himself dan
Were in the next room at the hoe down
Rocky burst in and grinning a grin
He said danny boy this is a showdown
But daniel was hot - he drew first and shot
And rocky collapsed in the corner

Now the doctor came in stinking of gin
And proceeded to lie on the table
He said rocky you met your match
And rocky said, doc its only a scratch
And Ill be better, Ill be better doc as soon as I am able

Now rocky raccoon he fell back in his room
Only to find gideons bible
Gideon checked out and he left it no doubt
To help with good rockys revival

It was on a WKRP re-run Sunday. Second time I heard it. First time was when the episode was new.

Personally, think the cat kept shut up cuz it had a book planned but got run over by a pump truck.

I 'member that now, watched the show because Hoyt was gonna be on it.

My fav by him is his version of "Snowblind Friiend" wasn't as hit for him but the guys who made it a hit paind royalties, like a lot of songs he wrote.  Love Hoyt's version of Panch and Lefty, one he didn't write but covered real good.

"Work your fingers to the bone. what doyou get, boney fingers."

Hoyt like many of the good ones left us way to soon. :'(
