Willie was a well kept secret everywhere but Texas. I saw him in the 60s when he had a crewcut and wore a turtleneck and a sportcoat.

Now that’s funny……..

Well he's got some that ain't good to post here. but this one will pass. ;D  Coe spend a lot of years in the slammer afore he pulled his head out, he's got a bit  quite a potty mouth at times. ::)

I'd heard The Burritos out in California
could fly higher than The Byrds
Roger McGuinn had a 12 string guitar.
It was like nothing I'd ever heard
And The Eagles flew in from the west coast
Like The Byrds they were trying to be free
While in Texas the talk turned to Outlaws
Like Willie and Waylon and me.

Hey!
Well they say Texas music is in the make
And we've been making music that is free
Doing one night stands and playing with our bands
Willie, Waylon and me

Oh Mad Dog!

They say The Beatles were just the beginning
of everything music could be
Just like The Stones I was rolling along
Like a ship lost out on the sea
And Joplin would die for the future
And Dylan would write poetry
And in Texas the talk turned to Outlaws
Like Willie and Waylon and me

Hey!
My name is David Allen Coe and I'm from Dallas Texas.
They say Texas music is in the make
And we've been making music that is free
Doing one night stands and playing with our bands
Willie, Waylon and me

Big Jim!

I'd heard The Burritos out in California
could fly higher than The Byrds
Roger McGuinn had a 12 string guitar.
It was like nothing I'd ever heard
And The Eagles flew in from the west coast
Like The Byrds they were trying to be free

The Flying Buritto Brothers, hadn't thought about them in a long time.  Who could forget the Geezenslaw Brothers?

CAN FEEL YOUR ARMS AROUND ME
LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY
I CAN FEEL YOUR HEARING NEXT TO ME
AND HEAR YOUR LAUGHTER GAY
YOU TRIED TO TELL ME WHAT WAS RIGHT
AND I TOLD YOU WHAT WAS REAL
ALL I EVER LIVE FOR NOW
IS THIS PIECE OF WOOD AND STEEL

IN A WORLD THAT'S FULL OF TROUBLE
A WORLD THAT'S FULL OF PAIN
LORD, MANY FALL BESIDE THE ROAD
AND THEY NEVER RISE AGAIN
MANY MORE ARE BENDING LOW
OR BROKEN AT THE WHEEL
ALL I NEED TO CARRY ON
IS THIS PIECE OF WOOD AND STEEL

I WAS BORN MY MOTHER'S ONLY SON
SHE LOVES ME ALL SHE CAN
BUT THERE ISN'T MUCH TO SAY TO HER
SINCE I BECAME A MAN
AND I OFTEN MET THE DEVIL
BUT I NEVER MADE A DEAL
I JUST THANK THE LORD FOR HANDS TO PLAY
THE PIECE OF WOOD AND STEEL

IT'S FACE IS SCARRED AND BEATEN
LIKE THE RAGGED CLOTHES I WEAR
LIKE THE BODY THAT GOD GAVE ME
I MIGHT GIVE IT BETTER CARE
BUT I PLAY IT FOR THE LADIES
AND I PLAY IT FOR A MEAL
I PLAY THE STRINGS JUST TO HEAR 'EM RING
ON THIS PIECE OF WOOD AND STEEL

I'M GROWING TIRED OF SEARCHING NOW
THERE'S NOTHING MUCH I CRAVE
GIVE OR TAKE A LITTLE TIME
AND YOU CAN WRITE IT ON MY GRAVE
THERE'S NOTHING MORE I CARE TO OWN
NOTHING LEFT TO FEEL
ALL I EVER WANTED
WAS THIS PIECE OF WOOD AND STEEL

IN A WORLD THAT'S FULL OF TROUBLE
A WORLD THAT'S FULL OF PAIN
LORD, MANY FALL BESIDE THE ROAD
AND THEY NEVER RISE AGAIN
MANY MORE ARE BENDING LOW
OR BROKEN AT THE WHEEL
ALL I NEED TO CARRY ON
IS THIS PIECE OF WOOD AND STEEL

I WAS BORN MY MOTHER'S ONLY SON
SHE LOVES ME ALL SHE CAN
BUT THERE ISN'T MUCH TO SAY TO HER
SINCE I BECAME A MAN
AND I OFTEN MET THE DEVIL
BUT I NEVER MADE A DEAL
I JUST THANK THE LORD FOR HANDS TO PLAY
THE PIECE OF WOOD AND STEEL

I'LL BE PLAYING THIS GUITAR TILL THE DAY I DIE

This one covers a lot of Greats...

There are winds of changes blowing
Gathering leaves up in its path
And the people who are the leaves
 Will remain in our hearts
 With love, till eternity

 King Elmore was born,
 So was Duke Ellington
 Jelly Roll made love
Bessie Smith was created in heaven above
 Robert Johnson sang the blues
Shick Webb did those things that only he could do
Charlie Christian started a new thing
And, oh my, how Billie Holiday could sing
 Alan Freed rock and rolled,
Joe Turner's voice was very low
 B.B. King wailed
 Charlie Parker cried
 Louis Jordan smiled
 Ray Charles moaned,
 Chuck Berry rock and rolled
Fats Domino made me feel good
Elvis Presley did things that no one thought he could

Then came the Beatles, Rolling Stones
Whole new thing was going on.
 Frank Zappa zapped
Mamas and Papas knew where it was at
They all listened to Ravi Shankar.
Now that we got Jimi Hendrix
We know where we are (and Louis Jordan smiled)
And the winds of change go on blowing, blowing,
Gathering more and more leaves in its path,
 As time goes past

Winds of change keep on blowing,
Winds of change keep on blowing,
Bob Dylan sang about the winds of change
Blowing, it's all blowing, the winds of change.

Willie was better known as a songwriter than a singer in the beginning of his career.  He played bass for Ray Price.

Ol' Willie once asked my mother to dance at a honky tonk in the hill country outside of SA.  My mother, being the snooty one that she is, turned up her nose at the unkempt guy talking to her and walked away.  She didn't know who he was until her friends told her.

She dated a senator for a while.  That was more her style.  I was too young and don't remember his name, but I do remember that he drove a Cadillac with power windows. ;D

She’d turn her nose away from if he like he was when I encountered the fool.

He was scheduled to play the Norva ‘n his bunch were takin’ their instruments inside. He was standin’ on the sidewalk beside his tour bus talkin’ to two normal lookin’ guys. I walked past them ‘n he stunk sumthin’ awful. Don’t even wanna think what the inside of that bus smelled like. Bet the little grease ball ain’t seen a change of clothes, bar of soap or a shower inna week.

He kind of gives off that impression.  He is, after all, a hippie.  BO and Cannabis are no doubt the prevailing odors on his bus.  I do like his music though.  Leastways as I hear it.   I also like how he doesn't let anybody pigeon-hole him.  I'm not saying he's a "good" singer, but at least he'll sing almost any style as badly as another. ;D

Willie is "On the Road Again" all the time and doesn't have time for a bath.  Willie lived in Nashville for awhile years ago. The house caught fire.  Willie was standing outside and suddenly ran back inside the house. He came back out with a small box. One of the firefighters asked him why he went back in.  Willie didn't want his Marihuana to burn up.

OK, mystry tune, no fair usin' Google, tell me who wrote it and did it.  Might surprise you if you is only used to what they played on the radio.  BTW he was not allowed to sing this one on Carson, story is at the filming Carson bout rolled out of his seat, but the suits said "No Way." ;D

Oh lay me down in Forest Lawn in a silver casket,
Put golden flowers over my head in a silver basket.
Let the drum and bugle corps play taps while cannons roar
And sixteen liveried employees sell souvenirs from the funeral store.

I want to go simply when I go,
They'll give me a simple funeral there I know,
With a casket lined in fleece
And fireworks spelling out "Rest in Peace."
Oh take me when I'm gone to Forest Lawn.

Oh lay me down in Forest Lawn, they understand there.
They have a heavenly choir and a military band there.
Just put me in their care, I'll find my comfort there
With sixteen planes in a last salute they'll drop a cross in a parachute.

I want to go simply when I go,
They'll give me a simple funeral there I know:
With a hundred strolling strings
And topless dancers with golden wings!
Oh take me when I'm gone to Forest Lawn.

Oh, come, come, come, come,
Come to the church in the wildwood,
Kindly leave a contribution in the pail.
Be as simple and as trusting as a child would
And we'll sell you the church in the dale.

To find a simple resting place is my desire;
To lay me down with a smiling face comes a little bit higher.
My likeness cast in brass will stand in plastic grass
While hidden weights and springs tip its hat to the mourners filing past!

I want to go simply when I go.
They'll give me a simple funeral there I know.
I'll lie beneath the sand
With piped in tapes of Billy Graham.
Oh take me when I'm gone to Forest Lawn.

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
For a slightly higher fee!

Oh take me when I'm gone to Forest Lawn!

Forest Lawn is the famous cemetary in Los Angeles where the movie stars are buried.
