Leon has done a lot behind the scenes that most don't know about.  The Hank Wilson was one of the first on his Shelter label, he was thumbin' his nose at Nashville and Top 40 Rock at the same time.   ;D  Leon has helped a lot of good musicians through the years, including a good friend of mine Sean Bengiman, does a lot of studio work but is a danged good bluesman on his own.

The Highwaymen came along after the Outlaw album.   The Highwaymen are Johnny Cash, Kris Kristopherson, Willie Nelson, and Waylon Jennings.  The OUtlaw album was Willie, Waylon, and Tom Paul Glazer and the Glazer Brothers.

Jessie also played with Leon's band.   Heck I thought he was a rock n roller in the 70's He's done blues gosphel bluegrass rock and country recordings

I have an old record from the '60's,  it was either Vern Goshin or Gene Clark (after the Birds) anyways on the back up list, it has Leon Russel on keys and Glen Campbell on guitar.

I love readin credits on albums and even the movies, unbelieveable what ya see there. One of the most prolific makers of album covers was Dean O. Torrance...(of Jan and Dean fame) everybody from the Dirt Band on...If you have some old vinel (sp) look at the backs and see who was playing and who made the covers...very entertaining reading...

Curley, I have a 33 of old Waylon nashville stuff, one cut has Grahmn Nash on it, pre-Woodstock stuff.  Also Glen Cambell was with Tex Williams for a while.

Strangest credit I ever saw is one of Harry Chapin's songs, "Dirt Gets Under the Fingernails."  Starts out with a car startin' yep someones in the credits gets credit for 57 Chevy. ;D

I am  readin a book right now called "Laural Canyon" (It is the third in my own trilogy, I didn't write them I just read them in this order) The first was  Riot on Sunset Strip (i Almost was on the strip the night of the riots, but last minute went to a drive in movie, after all I was on a first date. But I went to school with Jim McGrew that was in the band WW3 prerroming at the Pandoras Box) Then I read Hotel California, and they all three talk about the musicians around the strip in that era..And the pictures are outstanding. There is one pix of Joni Mitchell, David Crosby and Eric Clapton sitting out in Mama Cass back yard. And a bit of trivia"
Stephen Stills tried out for the part that Peter Tork got in the Monkees....hmmmm, wouldn't that have changed the world of music a bit.

Anyways cool books and gives a bit of insight in that world..

Curley who sometimes wishes he could wander down Sunset Strip, and meet up with Old Top at the Rocky and Bullwinkle statue...

ps: the pee song has me wonderin' hit us with it..

That wasn't a guess, jus a bonus question on a related topic.  The album I's referrin to is from a different group an didn't come around until '72.

I listened to mostly country back then on my 8 Track player.  Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, and Marty Robbins.  Leo, you would have to have been an infant in 1972.
