Some Type II Richards Are In: Updated
« on: July 05, 2007, 05:01:48 PM »
I called Cimarron today and was told some 5 1/2" Type II Richards in .44 Colt are in house now and that POSSIBLY they are getting another shipment before the August break in Italy. For the life of me I cannot figure why the Italians made 5 1/2" models first.  ??? ::)

I hope so, I've had a pair of 5 1/2" .44 Colts on order at their Texas Jack's store ever since they announced the Type 2s.
At least someone is happy to hear about the shorter of the two barrel lengths.  This is one time I'm glad it's me...

I agree with the Kid.  I really can't understand why they started with the 5.5 inch either.  Oh and about that August break.   ??? >:(      The Type 11 would be great to have, but for now I would be satisfied just to find a Richards Mason Army, 8' in 44 colt.

And so we wait.   Deadeye.

Don't know. Since I wasn't interested I didn't ask.

I was told in sometime back Via mail I was #6 on the list... based on my order in Feb. 06
I spoke to Charlie Hudson at Shot in Jan. 07 and he confirmed (I also handled the Type II he had on display)
of course that was an 8" and 45 LC which we were told what was to be offered.

I informed Cameron, I would prefer the 44 but still wanted the 8" .... they have not responded to my email I made in recent
weeks.
Nor have they informed my FFL , so I had no claim on one of these 5.5" guns.

I wonder if Cimarron had a Richards-Mason 'Army grip'  in stock in .44colt ? Might have to call them,,,,I kinda like it better than the Richard 2's....

Well, yea,,im off to call Cimarron and see,,maybe the type 2's will take some of the heat off the RM's with 8" barrels.

Fox Creek Kid says "For the life of me I cannot figure why the Italians made 5 1/2" models first. "

I have given up trying to figure why the Italians do ANYTHING!

Cimarron does have another shipment scheduled to arrive soon, although they don't know what will be on it until just before it ships.  And then it will probably be October before the next shipment since the Italians take August off.

For Deadeye Don and Marshall Deadwood, Cimarron just received 33 8" 1860 Richards-Masons in .44 Colt.  They may have backorders for some of those, but should still have some available.  And Marshall, ALL of the 1860 R-M's have Army grips, regardless of barrel length or caliber (and all the '51 R-M's have Navy).  The '72 Opentops are produced with Navy grips for all barrel lengths, but Army grips are only available with 7.5" barrel on the OT.

Other interesting arrivals for us STORM-troopers are 1860 Richards-Masons in 45LC, '72 Opentops in .45LC (Navy grip only) - though I'd only feel comfortable shooting BP in those.  And they finally got some more 7.5" '51 Richards-Masons (they've had only 5.5" for quite some time).

Abilene,  Thank you for the information.  I should be on a list to get one of those RM 8",  but not willing to leave anything to chance, I will call them.  Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

I am aware that all of Ubertis .60 conversions have army grips,,,,but..

historically..

the earliest '60army factory conversions were converted back to  'navy' grips...didnt last long till they went back to the standard army grip,,,, but thats how the '60conv's started life,,,part army and part navy...

What's your source for that info?  ???  The earliest '60 Army percussion revolvers had Navy grips AND a 7.5" barrel but only several hundred I believe.

Why 5 1/2" first?  Real simple, they are many many times more popular than the longer barrels.

allowing as how that might be true ... I don't have any hard facts to say it is...

There is quite along waiting list , and for quite some time ( in my case 16 months ) for the first offered 8" in 45 LC.
When they were first announced that as all that was to be offered...
now they are in 44 Cal. & rumered 38 cal. and the 5 1/2" configuratuon ... but we the have yet to see ( save for the one I saw at "Shot" ) the original offerded 8"  :-\

I am no expert, and my CAS experience is not wide , and ranging, but, there are quite a few OT, and OT conversion shooters in the couple places that I do shoot. I would
not agree that the barrel length shorter than 8" is more popular.I know that the shorter bbls are produced , and were originally, but in the informal reading I have done about original, and my observations at current events, (I have never saw anyone compete with the shorter version).I would guess that the 8" is WAY more popular.
I would agree that the shorter than 8" guns that have that goofy modern top strap thing above the cylinder are more popular, but who would want to shoot one of those anyway??

I agree, most OT guns I see have 7-1/2 inch barrels, and they look the best with them.  I have both for my 44s, and can't say which I prefer as shooters at this point.....

I agree that the longer barrels are way more popular on open tops.
They were then, and they are now.

What is a top-strap anyways ?     ;D
