I liked the Pat Garrett match so much, I plan on attending as many monthly weekend shoots at Cooyal that I can. Decided to buy a 1876 in 45/60 or 45/75. None to be had,
I thought about it and as I have a BPCR 45/70, I decided that I have the long range matches covered, so started looking for a 45/70 Cowboy Marlin. None to be had in those either,
All I could get was one of those big shiny ugly Marlin XTwhatevers in 45/70, the stainless one with the long Bbl and grey laminated wood. It is off to the Gunsmiths at Sefton for a cobbled up full length mag tube and a bit of honing and de-horning. I don't know about the wood though, I wonder if it will take a stain if I strip the finish off it?
?
Anyways, looking forward to getting this big mutha slinging lead, thats for sure.
Mick.
Shucks, by the time the 1876s come in I won't be working and probably won't have the bucks for it, I was going to go full hog and get my own headstamp on the brass from Bruce Bertram and all.
A fool and his money are not soon parted if there's no toys in the country.
Anyways i will probably end up with a customised big Marlin which will end up costing the same or more that the 1876, especially if I re-stock it.
I wonder if the wood from a 444S will swap?
