SAA Rodeo Disrespected
« on: June 08, 2006, 03:49:56 AM »
I am dissappointed!  I have two FFL dealers I work with, what I would call my primary and secondary dealers.  My secondary dealer sells a particular break free gun wipe that I really like, and I stopped in to pick some up.  While there, I noticed tucked far in the corner of the gun cabinets a great looking 4 3/4" Rodeo that I asked to look at.  I imagined purchasing it very quickly, until I noticed the nasty turn marks on the cyclinder between three of the bolt stop grooves.  I checked the gun out, just as expected I found the thing perfectly timed.  So, the nimrods either played with it or let some customer play with it.  Such disrespect for Single Actions really pisses me off, but it also reinforced why they are my secondary location.

I agree. IMHO, people that do not know about SAAs should not even pick one up, let alone cycle the action. The only ones that will buy that gun now, are others that don't know SAAs. Personnally, I would have had ties around the hammers.

That is the advantage of special ordering, and I have learned if I stagger my orders, it feels like they are coming in every once and a while.  The old ketcup commercial with the song "Anticipation" always plays in my mind when I am anxiously waiting for a great USFA to show up.  Boy are they worth the wait though!  I am kind of glad that I was turned off to that Rodeo as I want one to match my 5 1/2" that has the Case Colored Hammer.  Sometimes things just work out for the best.

Doc,
An unfortunate, but common,  mistake made by people that don't understand the workings of the SAA.  They bring it to half-cock then ease the hammer off of the notch and lower it, leaving the cylinder out of battery with the bolt rubbing against it.  Certainly hope you took a moment to educate them (and it so, did they understand what you were talking about? ???).

I called the manager, who I get along with very well, because the look I got from the counter guys told me they were full of themselves and not listening to me.  On a good note, I finally got my primary FFL to take a look at USFA at the show.  I think I have him convinced to start stocking some USFA SAA's.  He is an old Marine that instructs many of the police force personnel around here and is in the military mind set, but the man respects all firearms and always takes good care of them.  He is always watching customers and prompting them in what to do and not to do.
