My new Revolving Carbine Holster rig
« on: April 03, 2006, 02:27:43 PM »
Here are a few photos of my new revolving carbine holster rig.  The carbine can be carried either in the holster witht the holster riding in the frog, or carried in the the frog by itself. There is a "D" ring in the back of the frog that allows the rig to pivot to draw the carbine.  Once you get used to it you can get it out pretty quick. You can carry the rig under the armpit or behind the shoulder.  I haven't made the strap yet, but a standard carbine sling strap should work ok. I want to avoid as much metal hitching to the "D" ring as possible. I am also going to make a hood to fit over the stock.  The holster can be removed and used just as a case if wanted.
I'd like some feedback on this.  I think this is a pretty good rig for the revolving carbine.  There's always room for improvement.

I like the design. It looks like it could be worn on the right or the left without having to make a second one. That would hang over a saddle nicely, too. Looks to be a very versatile design. Nice touch to have the pouch to fit the barrel for additional protection if desired. As far as improvements, I can't think of any. Looks good.

Your opinion is always gold with me Marshall.  . Actually the pouch is a fully lined molded holster and getting the edge straight is not easy. I had to use a good size welt to allow the trigger guard to slide in.  Perhaps if I made the trigger cutaway on both sides, both left and right handers could use the same one. Much obliged.

Thanks for the reply John. I still have to make the sling strap and hood for it. I like wearing it a bit behind the shoulder, bandoleer style. i can move it around and pivot the nose upward to draw the carbine.  With a bit of practice you can get it out pretty smooth and quick.  I may add a cartridge slide to the strap.

What out for those P.C., Big Brother Pukes in our Sport though, they'll attempt to discredit you & get it Banned by stating that You or that that Method of carry & draw style is Unsafe, as they've attempted to do w/ Cross-draw & Shoulder Holster Rigs.

Well, let them look in the Packing Iron book and they will see that carbines had been carried on a sling for quite a spell.  i just elaborated on a theme.

Hello Triggersmith, everyone:

I just got the carbine and looking for a nice holster that I can use to carry the gun on myself one way or another. What you show on the pictures looks awesome. Is this something that I can purchase?

Thanks for the info.
Cheers,
Mad

Triggersmith,

That's a fine looking piece a work. I really like it. The color is good and the design is innovative but yet very traditional in design. You are using all the stuff the old boys had back in the good old days but being a inventor as well. That piece would fit just fine if a picture of it was in "Peacemakers" or "Packing Iron". I like it.

Cheers,
