How about the top ten performances by an actor in a western?
Here is my list:
1.  Robert Duvall as Augustus McCrae in Lonesome Dove (also good performance in Open Range)

2. John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn in True Grit (also good performances in the Shootist, Fort Apache, Red River)

3. TIE  Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday in Tombstone
           Dennis Quaid as Doc Holiday in Wyatt Earp

4. Sam Elliot as Conagher in Conagher (good in any western he is in)

5. Clint Eastwood as William Money in The Unforgiven (also good performance in The Outlaw Josey Wales)

6. Gary Cooper as Will Kane in High Noon

7. Tom Selleck as Monte Walsh in Monte Walsh (also good performances in Last Stand at Saber River, Quigley Down Under)

8. Kevin Kostner as Charley Waite in open Range

9. Tommy Lee Jones as Woodrow F. Call in Lonesome Dove

10. Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp in Tombstone

Those are all good choices,,,,How about Burt Lancaster in "APACHE"
And I would even add, Billy Bob Thornton in the ALAMO,,,,I wasn't thrilled by this version but I like the way he played David Crockett
Denis Quaid was the worse Sam Houston I have seen so far.

I would like to put David Carridean for his role as Cole Younger in The Long Riders, Gregory Peck in The Big Country and The Gunfighter, and Clint Eastwood as the Outlaw Josey Wales on the honorable mention list.
