Camping Cowboy Style
« on: February 17, 2006, 01:30:35 PM »
In the early days of the caslist, we had a member by the name of Pawnee Bill. I don't know what happened to Pawnee, he disappeared from the list years ago.

He was a major contributor to the list and his field of interest was authenticity. I think the NCOWS members and others would like to read what he had to say about Camping Cowboy Style.

Feel free to come back and discuss the article here.

Thanks Marshal, and Pawnee, that was great.

Not something I'm going to do these days, but great.

Howdy Marshal Halloway,

Thanks for sharing that with us.  From our encounter at the GAF Muster, you know that I camp in a little better circumstances! ::)  Course, it takes a freght wagon and mule team to haul it all.  Still, I do like my creature comforts.

I read this several years ago when I was just lurking.  It inspired me to do my own weekend period camp about two summers ago.  It was wonderful and relaxing, just me and the dog.  I highly recommend it.  Most of my "shoots" have been with friends, out in the boonies having fun and plinking targets.   Spent a weekend in the Flint Hills with a couple of Henry Rifles, a Sharps, 3 cap and balls, a 2nd generation Colt SA, and tw great friends in an old homestead house.   The best of times.

I love camping. Sure sounds like it would be great experiance to do it cowboy style, but I would have to buy several things to do it. So I will have to start gradually to get everything so I can try it sometime down the road.

I've posted this before, but thought it might add a wee bit to this thread.  It was my first time "cowboy camping" at a CAS match ... absolutely beautiful location at "Palmer's Gulch", near Kamloops, British Columbia ... a few years ago:

(Mind you, it definitely wasn't the "only what you can carry on your own horse ... or maybe with one packhorse" sort of camp!)
