Got a nice Buck knife for Xmas...now need an idea for a sheath..
« on: December 30, 2005, 08:26:29 PM »
This is the model I got from my brother-in-law.

Now, remember, I am newbie...

I haven't sewn my thumb to my ear...yet...but, something in black to go along with it.
(can you believe it, the knife is 100% American made, but, the sheath is made in PROC)

How about a black one with a basketweave pattern stamped in it?

Black is what I had in mind, but, as far as the pattern or style for the sheath itself...

I am planning on doing a very simple design on it with my initials..

Ahhh. The old 119U. They are excellent knives, but, what American made Buck isn't? My Grandpa left his to me when he passed a few years back. It was a special addition with a nich wood handle. Regardless of the model, they are nice blades. Mine came with a nice, but not period correct looking sheath, did yours?

Mine is a crappy nylon job.

I am going to make a nice black leather sheath for it.

1 ply of 8oz on the front, with 2 ply of 8oz on the backing for the holster loop.

I had a gentleman bring me five of these with the fenders of his fathers old worn out saddle.

He wanted to make gifts for his brothers so he asked me to use the fender leather on the sheathes.

After cleaning and reconditioning the fender, I used it as the front of the sheathes.

The pictures show the fender as i got it and the end result.

I wrote this How-to Make a Mexican Loop style sheath - http://www.wrtcleather.com/1-ckd/mexloop/_mexloop.html - some years ago. The basics can be adapted to other styles many of which can be seen on my website:
