I know everyone will hate me but I think it looks goofy.  The loading lever is completely non-functional and silly looking.  It is so short you can't even get a lever extension on it.  Would would look better, in my opinion as a humble peasant, would have been to leave the lever off and have the barrel left solid where the lever and rammer would have been.

Ah My Dear Pettifogger -

Heaven Forefend, I do not hate you!
How could we hate the man that wrote all that good stuff still archived on the Open Range?
As I was taught in church, I love you like a brother, even when you are wrong headed and not thinking straight :-)

I just happen to be one of those ( like Crazy Coffin ) like the wierd stuff and short stuff! I even once owned a 3.5" Nickle Mod 27,
but sold it long ago to pay some bill or other. Seeing what they go for now I am kicking myself....

No hate at all  :)

You'd be correct the loading lever is completely non-functional...and better word would might be non-practical  :)

But to me,  it seems some how to balance this little gun...  I kinda like it
and I plan to get one

Loading shouldn't be too much of an issue. Powder & ball, as usual, then apply the stubby end of the ramming lever against the edge of a convenient (heavy) table, sturdy door frame, or perhaps a tree trunk. Hold by the grip and apply moderate pressure until the ball is seated against the powder. Avoid mallets....but if not, keep a supply of pivot screws and maybe a spare lever.

Regards,
Slim

Humpff!!
Actually, I find that little stubby loading lever adds a little balance.  Both practically and visually.  As far as actually loading the the little
SNUBBIE, the loading lever is completely superfluous.  Serves no real purpose.  Just looks ........ better.
I have built .... ah ..... I think 7 sets of Snubbies now.  Shoot em as my Main Match guns, Gunfighter.  Loading is NOT a problem as
I use an "off the gun" Cylinder Loading Stand.  Tower of Power (Shameless Plug) which loads a cylinder very quickly.
One Snubbie set I have are actually factory made Navys.  The barrels are actually exactly as Pettifogger describes.  The barrel lug is
solid except for a hole for a hand rammer.  No slot for the lever.  Looks good, except every time I look at em, they look like they are
"missing something."  Just don't look "right."  So I started building my own from a full navy barrel with the short stub of the loading
lever still in em.  Makes the gun look "balanced" to me.
I also have a set of "Army" factory Snubbies.  Same same.  Barrel lug was made solid except for the hole for a hand rammer.  Strangely,
the Army pattern barrel looks "right."

I actually use a Cylinder Loading Stand for all my Cap Guns.  Sooooo much easier to keep the cylinder face clean, free running and sanitary.

PS:  Snibby??  Wotz a Snibby??  Sort of like goin downa freeway and the sign says "keep alert."  Wotz a lert??  Strange critter me thinks.

There is a plus side.  Since I definitely won't be in line for a pair that means all you other guys will move up the line faster.   :o

Hi Guys,
It s what it is, a belly across the poker table fun gun. I have one of the 1960 Army Snibbies(?) Stubbies (??).
Oh fooy on my spelling,a short barrel pllinker. At about 8 yards mine actually shoots to POA and whacks a steel target with a pretty good clink.
A PITA to load, but still fun
But that gun  is pretty, not enough to cause me to have an expensive case of gottagitagunitis, but pretty

I am particularly excited, not only because it is a cool snubby-with-a-lever AND engraved,
but because it is actaully based on the historic pistol order from the factory by Captain Schaeffer.

It is not a fantasy "neverwas" but based only a real pistol!

Ah Perfesseur!!

Exactamundo my thoughts.  I only have a few thoughts.  Sort of like a fleeting Gnat.  A small, very fleeting Gnat.  However, in this
particular case, SPOT ON!!

When I first saw the Capt. Schaeffer Colt as part of the listing for an auction site, I just had to have ...... a pair.  Unfortunately, they
are no longer a production item for (ahem) Colt.  A good thing actually.  So ..... I built myself sorta the same thing, almost, very
nearly but not quite.  .44s Dontcha no.

Now, Pietta has seen fit to produce a reproduction of the Schaeffer Colt.  I almost hurt myself dialing up EMF to get onna list for a pair.
I think it most fitting it (the gun) is a reproduction of an actual.  Rather than some fantasy Never Never.  Is it next week yet????

Please post some actual photos and range report when possible. I really-really want to see an improved grip shape.
My Dad has a number of Pietta Navies in several configs...& I like....but just don't point like my Ubertis.

I'm expecting a new arrival next week myself....& will post a pic or two. Although it is a cartridge pistola (on my bucket-list). But in this case I'm hoping to shoot the bucket, rather than kick-it. Or at least in that order.

Hey Slim,
I have on hand 3 pair of "new build" Pietta 1851s.  36s and .44s.  And a pair of the old "Trombone Bell" handles on of 1860s (brass frame)
from which you might be able to see the difference.  The new pattern Pietta '51 grips are very ...... ah ..... Colt like.

Coffinmaker

PS: I don't post photos well (not a all) but I do believe I can corrupt another to post em for me.

EMF had a nice display on the Western Regional.  They said the Schaeffer's had not arrived when they left the office for the match but hope they will be there when they return.  There are supposed to be 60 of them and they are all pre-sold.
