yesterday i bought this rifle, it is a 1876 uberti in 45-60 i have been handloading for about 49 years and casting about 30 i have always liked the idea of the 76 but i hate long barrels. i have only seen one 20in barrel before on line until i saw this one yesterday. i should have it in a week or so. my question is how long did uberti make the 20in barrel? i think it is factory maybe you experts can shed some light on it.

Howdy, and welcome. Nice score. Yes, I believe there are a few out carbines out there with 22" barrels, Yahoody has one, I think. Lots to read and learn here in in the 76 section, and lots of knowledgeable guys (I'm not one of them, lol) here that will only be too happy to help.

I think all of the octagon barreled '76's from Uberti were 28".  For a few years, Cimarron had a gunsmith cutting some of them down to 22", but they haven't done that for a while.  The full-stocked carbines are all 22".
