Serial number
« on: January 07, 2015, 02:59:04 PM »
I have purchased a used Uberti Schofield, 44-40, seven inch gun.  How can I find out how old the gun is? The serial number on the gun, and on the original box is 718.

Thanks in advance,

Swain

There is no year code on the box to the best of my knowledge.  All of my No 3 top breaks have the year code on the bottom of the frame ahead of the trigger guard, next to the "ejector lever".

Year made   =   date code
1945   =   1
1946   =   2
1947   =   3
1948   =   4
1949   =   5

My Schofield in 45 Colt, SS# 3943 has the Proof date code stamped on the bottom of the frame next to the extraction star release latch.
That code is [BI] = 1997 date

What you refer to as the extraction star release latch is actually called the "ejector lever".  Not that it makes any difference:)

rbstrain49,

Not that it matters... the Star Extractor only extracts. Allowing the spent cartridge cases to fall clear of the revolver. Loaded cartridges remain in place.
There is NO "ejection" involved.

In front of the star extractor kind of on a little flat place, I have three what looks to be proof marks and the letters PSF.

I agree, it really doesn't matter but.  According to Uberties Schematic item # 79 (the Star) is the Ejector and item #637 is the ejector lever.  Don't shoot the messenger, Uberti named their parts, I didn't.
