Let's Pretend...
« on: June 07, 2014, 01:49:07 PM »
I realize that this is sheer fantasy, but lets pretend that USFA were to suddenly start turning out SAA's again and running a true custom shop.  If you could order anything you want in the way of a SAA, what would it be?  Mine, just to have something different, would be;

.45 cal., 10" barrel, cross pin frame, elongated, double eagle style trigger guard, Bisley style hammer, nickel plated with ivory grips.

It will never happen but it is fun to dream!

Capt. John,

Perhaps, you may want to start your Fantasy Quest with, "if you had all the money in the world...? What would you buy first?
I personally would not start with USFA.
Just a thought from my prospective.

Well, it is fantasy and you do have all the money in the world.  I would start with USFA!

I would like to have a USA made Bisley, 5 1/2", Turnbull bone case hardened, with armory blue, either factory one piece stag or real ivory grips in 44-40. May not be the greatest choice but I would just like to have one.

I'm with WWYS on those Bisley style hammers.  I really like them.

My preferences in firearms tend to run to "plain" side of things, although I do like fancy wood.  And I'm rather a perfectionist.  Yes, I would choose USFA over any other.

Actually, I already have most of what I really want from USFA.  My "ultimate," ordered and delivered in 2008, is a black powder framed .44/40 ("Frontier Six Shooter"), 7.5-inch barrel, fancy one-piece European walnut grip, and standard blue (with color case hardening as well of course, including hammer).  The only change I would make if I could order it now would be that I would want the higher-end blue, which I believe was the "Armory Blue."  I was short of cash at the time, and I couldn't justify the extra cost, or at least that was my reasoning at the time.  GaryG may remember my special order (as I was probably a troublesome customer) and his shipping it to Havre, MT.

Now, if I could order another revolver from USFA, I would like to have essentially the same configuration with a 4.75-inch barrel.  Not because I dislike the 7.5-inch barrel, which is my favorite for shooting, but because the 4.75-inch is so much easier to pack about and provides sufficient accuracy.  I have both lengths in .45 Colt in both USFA and 2nd Generation Colt revolvers, and like them all for different reasons.

I like things that are a little unusual, but WERE once available.

Think I'd order me a Bisley Flat Top in either 4-3/4" or 5-1/2" in some popular caliber.

And, while I was at it, probably a standard SAA in Flat Top variation.  :)

Ah, yes… the Bisley.  I would have ordered one with serial number and caliber to match the 1912, .38 Colt Bisley that I have.

The Bisley Hammer works well on all configurations of SAAs.

I think when I picked this Davidson's Special up I think it was $600 through a local FFL?  (I could be wrong, maybe it was $800?)

The best part of "Let's Pretend" would be to pretend the prices could be like that again.  ;)

I'll play!

Since we can order anything we want I'd order an Omni-Potent 4-3/4" royal blue/cch in .45 Colt (possibly .44 Special) with lanyard, & stocked in Ivory. I'd also want 3/4 coverage engraving of the 1880 period. This would be my BBQ/Fishing, rough country six-gun. Since we are going all out in the .45 Colt I'd send some of my ammo loaded with the Lyman 454190 & over my longtime charge of Herco.
If I decided on the .44 Special I'd want it zeroed with the RCBS 44-250-K over the std 7-1/2grs of Unique.
This would be my fishing gun & go anywhere gun both the .45 Colt & .44 Special are pretty potent ctgs & I'd have to decide which I'd want.

Fun stuff dreaming, if only USFA would come back, I'll bet they would sell all they could make.

A pair of Bisley Flat-top Target models. One a .44Spl/.44-40 convertible, the other a .38-40 with an extra cylinder in what would be a revised .401PowerMag. Both with 5½" barrels. Both with 75% engraving. Perhaps one full carbona blue with ivory and the other color case hardened with French walnut.
