Arcey,

Not in Oceana proper.
We use to pull into Norfolk to pick up the Oceana Air Wing personnel.
One A-6 Intruder outfit and two F-4 Phantom outfits stationed at NAS Oceana.
My old Squadron, now VFA-15, is based there now.
I am not at all fond of the Norfolk area.
I did live and work in the Williamsburg area for about 10 years.
Consider Winchester area my VA. home town.
My best,
 Blair

Carrier Enterprise anchor put on Abraham Lincoln

NEWPORT NEWS
An anchor from the world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier has been transferred to the carrier Abraham Lincoln.
Newport News Shipbuilding says an anchor from the Enterprise was recently installed on the Lincoln.
The shipyard is in the process of inactivating the Enterprise and overhauling the Lincoln.
During the Lincoln's overhaul, inspectors noticed that one of the Lincoln's two anchors needed to be replaced. So shipbuilders swapped out one of the Lincoln's anchors for one of the Enterprise's.
The anchor was cast in 1962 and weighs 30 tons. The shipyard says is an exact twin of the younger Lincoln's anchor.
The Lincoln's overhaul is about 45 percent complete and on track for delivery in 2016.

I am afraid that The Enterprise is destined for the scrapyard. Not a fitting end for the first atomic powered Aircraft carrier.

She's at NN now havin' all the good stuff removed. Then she goes to the ship breakers. Sad.

This is indeed sad news!
My old Naval Air Squadron was assigned to fly off the Enterprise during its Maiden Voyage.
The Squadron (VA-15) was flying the, "then" old A-1 Sky Raider at the time.
A very late WWII propeller aircraft flying off the newest Atomic Powered Ship in the fleet.
What a contrast in technology.

The Lexington has been at Corpus Christi for several years, as a Museum and tourist attraction.

Yeah Blair, She is the 5th. ship named Lexington, and took her name after CV 2 Lexington was lost ( due to scuttle to keep her from capture) at the Coral Sea battle. She's quite the Movie star too.
She was the last commissioned Essex-class carrier in service, retired in 1991.

The John W. Brown as photographed from Norfolk's Harbor Park this morning. One can see she's alive from the smoke. Initially, I'd cropped the image so the name could be easily read. On second thought, uncropped it gives a more realistic view of where the ship is.

A few hundred feet west, a Staten Island ferry. They send the things down here because it's less expensive with fewer hassles than to get them serviced in New York.

I have been on the Lexington as a tourist. It is the first Carrier that I have been on. I have been on the Texas, Alabama, a Destroyer Escort at Galveston, several WW2 subs, and the Nautilus(first Atomic Sub).

Restaurant. Yeah. Seats an army. Heh, heh.

N'er been on one that big. The Cape May thing is really nice. Unnerstan they don't serve serve food these days. Someone got sick 'n sued. Last I was on it, ya parked, went to the galley 'n gotcha a cheeseburger, fries 'n a draft beer. Sit back 'n watch life on the Delaware go by. Mebbe 'nother beer. An integral part of a trip to Atlantic City 'n back.

Jamestown-Scotland ferry is enjoyable. Hope to ride it again soon. But it ain't on the same scale.

Like ta see the Texas some day.

For me, Yorktown, North Carolina, Alabama & the Texas ,  one carrier & 3 battle wagons, hope to make it more...
For Subs the Drum & the Balao and the Destroyer Laffey
The biggest, the Iowa Class has fared the best in preservation , all 4 commissioned are preserved.
The North Carolina, Alabama & the Texas are all different class and the Texas I think is the only dreadnought preserved.

They are still trying to save The Olympia, but they need HELP !

I was not sure where the Lexington was.
I believe it was the training ship (CVT-16) used for becoming flight deck qualified out of NAS Pensacola, during my time in the Navy.
I've been on CV- 38 Shangri-La While it was being readied for decommissioning. They only had a crew of about 500, the food was better.
My primary ship was the CVB, CVA- 42 Franklin D. Roosevelt
and the CVA-59 Forrestal.
These were the three carriers stationed out of NS Mayport Jacksonville, FL.
The Shangri-La was replaced with the CVA-67 JF Kennedy.

The Carolina is the namesake of the class. Only two, Washington (BB 56) 'n her (BB 55, The Showboat). Fast BBs to keep up with the carriers.

Yes, Blair, that's where the Lexington was, we went for a tour onboard when I was about 16, 1974. Didn't have much for displays, and she wasn't very "ship shape" at the time. My dad wasn't impressed, he had served onboard a CVE, and they always kept up their ship better. And then as we traveled on, we were late when we got to Mobile, didn't get to go aboard the Alabama. Had a much better visit on Lexington a few years ago when we went to Texas for a shoot.
