Buyer BEWARE on this GB auction............
« on: February 10, 2014, 06:11:20 PM »
Take a look at picture 16 on this Gunbroker auction:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=392412949

Am I the only guy thinking this is a felonious act (listing this firearm as a real one)?

Report them to GB, there is a page for just such reporting.  I have before, they contact them and tell them to change/remove it.  Also, I always contact the guy myself when they misrepresent, over half the time they are just ignorant.  I sent the seller a note pointing out that the stamping looked fraudulent.

Bob

Been looking for the page for an hour............you sure? If so post a link!

As far as this guy being ignorant? He has over 500 sales and multiple fakes listed, all look to be faked by the same person...........
Stupid might be acceptable but ignorant, I don't think so.............

Multiple fakes?  That guy should be reported to BATF, not GB. Serious as hell, call the cops.

Now is it me, or does the "patina" on the barrel look like it's been accelerated with vinegar and steel wool?

That is a very suspect item in my opinion.  I would think the BATmen among others might be interested in having a discussion with this dude.

I searched some reputable Original Henry dealers--none of the stamped manufacturer patents look like that.  Man, a 45,000 gun that was altered and the guy passing it off as pristine, that's really bad behavior.

It's not even the right "mustard"-yellow color to the patina. Address was definitely individually hand stamped, and odd that the various "H" stamps do not show the same wear.

Exactly.  Unfortunately depending on where this guy is located (seller could be operating from a overseas IP, difficult to trace) but they should be busted.   When gunbroker first started, right after Ebay quit allowing firearms, there was a single shot pistol being sold as an original.  Anyone who ever had one of those cheap Classic Arms kits would immediately recognize it.   I emailed the guy and told him, hey, sorry to tell you but you have a fake.   SOB knew it, he had been stupid and bought it but rather than acknowledge it as a learning experience, he was trying to pass it on.   I notified GB, two weeks later I found it on Auction Arms, I notified them too.  Never saw it again.

I reported the two "henry" auctions to the Gunbroker  help center as "possible" fraud. They should hopefully investigate the issue.

Good on you ...  not sure he's broken a law just offering them as yet...Though it is Fraud and may be laws that cover
just advertising them  :-\

Course if he sells one then, it's a felony ... it is a Federal wrap to fake a Replica to get around the 1898 Curio laws..not to mention the Fraud wrap

The engraving looks mighty crude , maybe India or Pakistani like   :-\

when planets align...do the deal !

Not only fraudulent in his listings, he is trying to cover up many of the facts with his descriptive and "flowery" terminology.
Things like Major2 quoted above and 44RF...............really? How can a guy that has sold so many antique firearms not notice that the firing pin is in the center of the bolt? Not see the faked address? Not wonder why the stock is the wrong color or wood type?

It is a FEDERAL offense to sell a modern firearm as an antique. He say's, "This is a antique that can be shipped directly to you."

He also has a real 1860 Colt Army with an Italian stock he's passing off as original.

Scroll over "Help"  at the top of the gunbroker page and click "Help Center". Then click "Contact Customer Support". There will be a pull down box. One of the words in the pull down is "FRAUD". Click it and fill out a report.

Not only is it a felony to sell a  modern firearm as an antique and circumvent BATF regs, if he uses the US Mail to correspond in any fashion to facilitate the sale and defraud the buyer then he is guilty of a felony. If I'm not too badly mistaken, the new Federal laws and depending upon the state ,governing interstate use of the internet to defraud then he may already be in violation.
Also if GB is made aware of this and fails to take action then they can be a co-conspirator in the fraudulent acts.

I would report him to GB but if he has been selling these to people they need a chance to recover what they lost and GB won't do anything about that.  I did query him directly.  I feel if you want to call a man out you should give him a chance to take care of it himself.  He demurred.

Someone on the Colts forum mentioned a case where the ATF prosecuted a party named RARBAUGH (sic) for faking Colt SAA's. I have looked for that case but my googlefoo isn't all that good.....
