Seems to be a waste.  Maybe it should be sold  and the money from the sell be used to help stop the poaching.

Lets see, ivory that could be sold to lower the market price of ivory thus discouraging more poaching will instead be destroyed. Yep, makes perfect sense from a government viewpoint.
