Cochise Leather Wild Bunch III
« on: September 08, 2013, 04:48:37 AM »
I have always liked the drop style rigs for carrying.
I am kinda short, and the hi-ride holsters are hard to draw for me.

I need to confirm that this rig is legal for matches.....

Sorry for the "newbie question", but I am just now starting out.

Thanks ahead of time

The holster is the part that there are rules pertaining to.  You can verify that holster looks good at http://sassnet.com/wildbunch/Wild%20Bunch%20Handbook%202013.pdf .

Sorry I wasn't clear.
I already own/use this rig.
It is VERY comfortable to me to wear and use.

Mag Pouches snap over belt.
Adding more is no sweat, they can go on in about a minute each.

From the WBAS Handbook:

•Holsters and magazine pouches must be of traditional or military design and
made from traditional materials, (e.g., canvas or leather).
• The holster must cover the entire length of the barrel and slide from the muzzle to
the ejection port. No “open front” speed holsters allowed.
• If a holster has a flap or strap it need not be closed during competition.
• No metal or plastic “competition” type equipment allowed.
• No shoulder or cross-draw holsters may be used during competition.
•Magazine pouches must be worn on the opposite side of the body from the
handgun.
•Magazine pouches must be worn vertical and conform to the shooters body (i.e.,
not tilt out from the shooter’s body).
• Magazine pouches can hold either one or two magazines.
• At least two inches of the magazine must be covered by the magazine pouch.
•The flat side of the magazines must be parallel to the body. Magazine pouches
may not hold magazines with the thin edge next to the belt. The flat side of the
magazine must be parallel to the belt.
•Pouches holding one magazine may be sewn directly on a belt but must hold the
magazines in the same manner as other magazine pouches.

+1 what August said.

In looking at the photo of the rig on the website, it looks fine to me.  It appears he has designed a holster for the 1911 and put it on a standard standard boscadaro belt with often seen 10 loops for pistol ammo.  My only comment would be that those are just taking up space you will need for more magazine pouches, but that's just me!

Thanks for info.

I assume "opposite side" is interpreted by everyone as "other side of buckle".
But they slide and can be moved.

The loops are for .45, so I likely will use for 45colt rifle rounds.

I chose this rig cause I liked the look of it, and it's better made than the 1912 cavalry rig I bought and sent back.
It WILL get treatment of about 3 pounds of silver conchos and "bling" soon.  LOL

I carry 5 mags plus the one I load at the loading table. I also carry a 3 round cartridge slide in 45 Colt and a 3 round slide for 12 gauge. I minimize the holster and a stiff 2 1/2 " belt. Some carry the upper belt with all the extras on them. Either way you can get bogged down.
If you have a stage with 4 reloads and somewhere along the line, the gun jams or something and you have to shuck a round, you will need an extra mag to complete the stage or take the miss(es). Sometimes you may be required to hit a stop plate and need some more rounds. I was a Boy Scout.

If I read your advise right, I should be okay with 3 mag carriers (6 mags on belt) then.
Thanks for the help.

I have enough "real estate" on my belt for a LOT of mags....  LOL
Guess it helps sometimes to be on the "round" side.
