Herbert - FYI - you may have already seen it, but there has been some discussion about it over on the leverguns forum:

Thank you I did read that discussion ,I was more interested if somone has tryed it with heavyer bullets over longer range.I have seen quite a few Pedosolie 1874 Sharps rifles and have no problem with the quality or acuracy, was just wondering how a 9lb rifle would be for recoil with 500gr bullets, as I intend to do a bit of long range shooting but want a lighter rifle that can double as a hunting rifle

Hello the fire-I have an 1878 Lyman sharps and love it.  I ordered it the first of Dec. 13 and got it the middle of Jan from Buffalo arms.  I've fired over 200 rounds of 45-70 540 grain postell pure lead bullets with 60 grains of 2 f swiss  with SPG lub and find it to be very accurate out to 500 yards.  I can hit a standard ram sillute target with it if I do my part.  My old buffalo gun is a Rem Rolling Block that weights 11.lbs and the sharps does have more recoil, but isn"t unmanageable.  I usually shoot 30-40 rounds when I go to the range each week.  The only thing I have changed is to take off the rear sight that came standard and put on Soli type mid range and a front sight with a bubble on it.  At a 100 yards I can get 1 to 1 1/2 groups off a bench.  Buy one, you won't be sorry.  Stonewall
