Just to start some conversation,  do you think the Wild Bunch will ever allow early double action revolvers or other early semi autos assuming they would meet the power factor?  Also, why don't they allow the 1887 shotgun?

RC, I got a question for you , Can/will you be making any WB type loading blocks in your new leather factory? I'd love to have a black one,w/ 10 .44 spl holes, 6 12 ga holes and a pouch for a magazine.

Hurry up and get well, you've been missed.

The request is interesting. I have seen some made by a vendor or two. Tomorrow I will see what I can create. I suppose these would be along the line of Missouri Marshall's loading block?

Seems the powers have taken the Wild Bunch movie to heart and made up a list from some of the arms used.

I have toys to play but a lot don't/can't/won't put out the money for a 40 caliber and over rifle. I have seen the MSRP on Taylor's website for a 20" Border Deluxe as we used to call them. $1895.00. Cody Conagher used to advertise  20" fully made into a Cody-Matic. No idea what the price is now.

I believe if the world gets back to work and WBAS grows really quick, we will see different classes and, maybe, different calibers. I would like to see them make the S&W #3 legal. Might be good in a revolver class. Never whoop a 1911.

When did moon-clips come into being?

I would not have a problem with the 1887. I am sure there were a bunch of those being used around that period.

Hey Red Cent, when are you and Grapvine gonna get back down here to shoot?? ??? We have an Open category you can use some of your other toys in. You oughta see RJ Gatlin with his double action Colt and moon clips, he can woop the tar outta me with my 1911 :-[
Howdy Tornado, no I don't think the WB will allow the double action revolvers or other calibers and I can understand why. It would be very difficult to enforce the rules with all the different options out there. IMHO they came up with a very good set of rules that you can expect to see in any sanctioned match. If anything I would like to see the 38sp rifle allowed as long as it met the PF with 158gr bullet in an Open category noneligible for overall awards. We can still do it locally to help recruit new shooters, Good Luck :)

Moon Clips were developed in 1917 - for use with the M1917 revolvers.

Pre-1899 Double Action revolvers and the Model 1887 are NCOWS legal, and a wide assortment of DAs and autos are also used in Zoot Shooting.

Page 421 of "A History of the Colt Revolver" by Haven & Belden shows a page from a Colt 1890 catalog.

It illustrates a Colt .38 Navy revolver being loaded with a two-piece speed loader and the wooden loading block for charging the speed loaders.
I believe that the Brits offered a similar device at about the same time for their first break top revolvers.

I think I try and make up one of the Colt types for my recently acquired Taylor's #3 Russian .44.

I prolly shouldn't do dis .... But....
Back when the first Wild Bunch guys first put the idea together, the game was intended to get ALL those safe queens from the period out to play with.  1917 Smith & Colt, Broomhandles, Lugers, etc.  M1917 Browning, should you happen to have one.  Then SASS jumped on it and choked it to death.
As soon as SASS published their "rules" for the first EOT side match, those too lazy to work out local requirements made those restrictive rules the Holy Grail.  Patooey.  And WB as originally intended ......... Died.
So ....... is SASS ever going back to the original intent and allow DAs from the day??  Not Hardly.

With all the current classes offered by SASS, putting DA revolvers into a separate WB class only makes sense.

But - who asked us for our opinions?

Hey Jefro. Have not been traveling much. If you have been reading the Carolina Cowboy's wire, you know why.

A couple or three of us have been talking about doing a two day trip soon. Tempting.

Being that you asked........I know the book says no shoulder holsters allowed.
Why not the M-3 holster?   ( think Pike in the movie )
Verticle draw, empty chamber,  not any different than a SAA in a crossdraw /shoulder rig as far as safety is concerned.
Not complaining, just asking.

I'm with Jake on this. A safe draw can be made quite adequately with the GI shoulder rig. It's a matter of training.

In the main matches at the recent Canadian SASS Championships, I saw several people turn 90* and holster guns on the move, a couple needing more than one attempt to get the gun holstered.

Sounds like a great situation for a 1917 with moon clips...draw, open load and roll!

Yep, in "Outlaw" class unless the rules are changed to admit revolvers.

In order to promote the game, our club will be "Outlaw" initially. We'll see after that ....

I'll go one more step, consider this........

Shooter carries one 1911 and one SAA.  ( another William Holden moment ) Both are shot empty and holstered as in any CAS
match. Ok, so the 1911 gets the clear and holster on the clock by the RO.
Hmm..... I get to shoot four guns instead of just three.......

If you're having this much fun, why are you worried about the time?  ;D

Works for me, but the rules say ..... We'll see how things progress with this event.

Some refinement will be done, in I'm sure.
