45-75 WIN bullets

Has anyone used these bullets for their hand loads in the Uberti 1876?, MAGNUS BULLETS 45-70 Caliber .458 Diameter 350 Grain Flat Point 500 Count. The bullet numer is No. 903.  If so, how did they work out?

No, but it is possible that I will rethink the 350gr bullet situation though.  It had been my plan to use only real bp with the '76 but the cost and availability of good bp lubed bullets has me thinking of just using the sub APP and the more easily attainable standard lubed bullets.  I have used APP in all of my cartridge guns for years anyway!

It is for American Pioneer Products and is an imitation black powder.  Slightly less powerful than the real black powder but some say it actually makes a bit more smoke (ymmv).  Its biggest plus is that it does not require special lubricants and the manufacturer even claims it works best without any bullet lube.  I think the jury is still out as to its being less of a rust risk for your equipment.

Slowhand have you ever used TrailBoss? From what I've read you just start out with 70% of your case capacity on any cartridge and go up to full in search of what is best w/o compacting. Don't know what the velocity would be for the 45-75,but it sounds interesting enough. My gun will be here Wednesday. I hate to go out and spend a hundred bucks on a box of Ten-X just to get the brass but it looks like that is what I will have to do. I called Jamison yesterday to see when they will be making a run of 45-75. They told me 2-3 mos still.

Actually I just put a post over on the SASS Wire that incuded a tidbit on TB.  I am not normally a smokeless shooter but am gearing up for Wild Bunch and have also used 38 a few times in recent years when travel shooting and thus needed some small quantities of smokeless.  This need was filled by the one bottle of TB that I had won back when but I emptied the bottle Friday night and will not replace it.  I do like its bulk, great safety aspect to prevent double loads but just can not cozy up to its price for regular use in the big brass caliibers.  I also found that some powder measures/situations are not very friendly towards Trail Boss.

Well the need is definitely there for a source of good black powder bullets in 350gr, as the Buffalo Arms method is just to iffy a process.  A small order supplier is needed because for most of us the idea of casting will be out of the question, for various reasons, though.  Just hoping Slim will pick up the gauntlet and add this to his stable of specialised bullet offerings  It is hard to believe that I have had the gun as long as I have and still do not have a reliable source for its most common bp bullet style and weight.  But then, these were never a plentiful gun/cartridge combination then or now.

Lou Sellman still has some of the Lyman 457192 .45-75 molds available.  
Lyman had made a run of that obsolete 45-75 mold for him a few years ago.
