1851 Navy Specs
« on: July 09, 2012, 09:55:29 PM »
Im looking at getting the Uberti 1851 Navy Conversions and I cant decide on a barrel length I would like them to be shorter in the 4.5" but I think the 7.5" is better looking and from what my research has found more authentic. So my question to you guys is what is the authentic barrel length of an 1851 Navy?

7 1/2 is the most common.... Though field conversions existed.
BB Cody owned a 5 3/4 Conversion.

Guns of the Old West did a feature story on the orginal which sold at auction for:  $22,500.00
Kirst Strite made a replica for the same article.

Jay Strite field shortend mine  :)

and here is my stylized version of the Cody holster for it.

Standard barrel length was 7 1/2 inches as Major 2 states.Lengths from the factory on special orders are known and range from 5 3/16 to 12 inches.
