Cutting the Skirts Around the Nipples on my NMAs
« on: February 27, 2012, 06:28:13 PM »
I have widen the slot on the cylinder skirts around the nipples of my Pietta NMA revolvers using a Dremel sanding drum and it worked pretty well.  Now I found someone with a milling machine that will cut out the rest of my cylinders.  Now for my question;

I have seen pictures of cylinders where a ball end mill was used and they looked great. But I am wondering if using that will give me enough access.   I am thinking of having my cylinders cut square.  I’m thinking of doing this because when I have used the cylinders cutout with the sanding drum I could use a capper but I had to be precise in using it.  It didn’t leave a lot of room for the capper.

What do you all think?  Is having them cut square going to make them look odd?  Does using the ball end mill leave enough room to use a capper easily?  If so, which ball end mill to use?  By the way I have been using a modified Tedd Cash snail capper.

Thanks.
