Is Yer Gun Famous?
« on: August 26, 2005, 08:19:20 PM »
I was lookin through RL Wilsons book on Cowboy guns (an excellent book I might add) and there was a gun that belonged to Doc Holiday, and I sure thought it looked familar. Well, I got out my old EMF Dakota (made by Jager) that I got about 22 years ago in the "white" as a kit. I wanted it to look old so I cold blued it. Recently I put on the wood grips and it finished the appearance. Although the picture dont do it justice, the guns almost look identical right down the the drag marks on the cylinder. Of course mine is obviously not a bp frame and the barrell is only 5 1/2".

So do any of you all have a gun that looks like a famous one? Lets have a look at em.

Same here!  All my guns are owned by the infamous Badlands Walker.  Once a Rebel & an Outlaw!

My real nice Ruger Blackhawk was once owned by the infamous "Cryptkeeper" of New Mexico! ;)

Curly, I don't have any famous guns, but I got that book The Peacemakers: Arms and Adventures in the American West by R.L. Wilson at a local Barnes and Nobles store last weekend.  I found this book on the bargain rack for less the $20.  It is an excellent book with over 375 pages, which is full of color photos of guns, knives, and paraphernalia of the Old West with many guns of the West's famous characters--like Doc Holliday's.  A great coffee table book with lots of "eye candy."
God bless,

Got one.  Belongs to Arapaho Al.  Me 'n Al shot together at Blue Ridge.  Some of y'all may have seen him.  He used to post on CAS-L way back.

Al left for a better place awhile back.  I got one of his pistols.  It ain't mine, I'm just holdin' it for 'im.

I've shot it other places.  I won't shoot it for keeps anywhere but where him 'n me shot together, Blue Ridge.  I never will.

I know ya kin see this, Al.  Ya did a great job on the action.  I've fixed the base pin problem, took me two tries.  It's clean 'n hangin' in the safe, waitin' for Roundup '06.

Miss ya, pard.

If you like RL Wilson books, you might try "Silk and Steel" a book on women and firearms. Full of pictures and a great read.

None of my firearms look famous, but Elle and Leigh are starting to get names for themselves among a very small group of people.

:D

Miz Lee,
Silk and Steel, my does that sound sexy......ohhhhhh

Nighthawk, come on folks, I thought you would be more up to that trivia...a couple of hints. It is in the book we were discussin in a couple of places, and has a 7 1/2" bbl. I mostly don't prefer that long of a barrel but for this gun I would make an exception...

OK here is the answer to Nighthawk:

It is a 7 1/2" Colt fully engraved with ivory grips. had Nighthawk engraved into the backstrap. Buffalo Bill Cody had it made for a doctor friend, who was nicknamed the nighthawk by indians cuz he would go out in the middle of the night. It recently was auctioned off for an obscene amount of money but was a beautiful gun...wish I could afford it.
