The "Cludge"

This has been on my mind for some time now...............



It's not supposed to look like anything from the period. I guess you could say it almost has a simple "Steam Punk" look to it.



Anyway I deem it the "Cludge" my take on something to do with a Brass Framed Remington (we need to find a reason for them to exist as Pietta has been blamed for "ruining" the Cowboy way and everything some hold sacred) ;)



This is still in the "Raw" When it is polished and all the steel bits are blued. I'll post up some more pics.

I am not sure that wouldn't be the most popular gun to show up at a SASS loading table in a long time, and bellyacher's be-damned!  What I find ost interesting is the grip modifications.  When you have time let us know what was done and why, I think you opened it up behind the trigger guard, a neccessity for many, and is that a bottle opener on the bottom front corner?   :D  I will definitely check back on this one.

You are going to get complaints about putting a conversion cylinder on a Brass frame ;) ;) ;)

All things being equal (except for mandatory Liabilty language) there is no reason to NOT put a conversion cylinder in a brass framed revolver.

That looks great. I was thinking of make one with a 1.5" to 2" and a dove tailed front sight.
If you can please put up some more pic of the grip work.

I like the brushed brass. If you get all the blued bit a nice high lustered blue. I think it will look stunging with the brushed brass

The only "brushed" areas are where I sanded the frame and the loading port.....the rest is very highly polished but the pics aren't the greatest (sun on the way down) so I guess it shows "swirls" or sumpn.........

The Barrel is about 2" long (just mostly in the frame). I tried a little longer and never really cared for the extra length. Didn't have the "funk sway" (that's texican) I was looking for. Besides it seems to feel more like a small "club" in my hand like this (hence the coined term "cludge"). Be great for up close and personal, if you know what I mean ;D

Whats holding the cylinder retaining pin in.  ???  You have made me look at my old brass frame in a whole different light. Dang You Hoof, I'm not going to sleep tonight mulling this over.

Interesting side effect of hand grinding the loading port.........

You did notice it is at MINIMUM dimension for the 44 Colt case, YES?

The brass got a bit warm (pretty darn warm) and the cylinder pin became a "press fit" into the back of the frame. I'm sure that it will not stay that way and I have a couple of ideas but I'll probably have a set screw that goes in from the bottom (thru the wings) into a small indent in the bottom of the barrel.

I originally was going to cut the barrel off flush with the frame and just "bond" that portion to the brass (no more shoulder to tighten against) nd I still might. If I do then I will set the "wings" back farther in the frame to be flush also.

I have some COOL ideas to make this more "Steam Punk"..........stay tuned!

. . . .  is one I did a while back . . . I've now cut out the front and most of the bottom of the trigger guard as well. 

The real problem with conversions in brass framed pistols is in the Colts that are held together by the steel threads of the arbor into the brass of the frame.  Not very strong.  The Remington frame has much more strength even if made of brass.
