Holster Rig
« on: August 22, 2005, 01:44:40 PM »
Hey all,

I am going to use my Cattleman and holster rig when I hunt. I just got a great deal (1/2 price) on this:

TRIPLE K BRAND  LEATHER WYOMING WESTERN DROP BELT # 110-L C 45 WITH CHEYENNE WESTERN HOLSTER #114-15 4 5/8 .

In my SASS Shooters Handbook it says (just got it t'day) that Buscadero or drop loops can not be used. So, I guess I will be using this only for hunting? What is the reason for this? It could be worn to meet the 30 degree rule. Is it that it gives an unfair advantage? Thx and have a great day.

P.S. Could I take the holster off the drop loop belft and use it on a straight belt? Thx again.

LKP,  Where in the shooters handbook does it say that Buscadero style holsters are not allowed?  I just checked the version on the SASS web site and can not find that referance.

Buscaderos are legal and are a requirement for B Western.

I think it would be okay, as long as you are not shooting "Classic Cowboy". Gotta dig out my handbook.

Forgot about that...Busacderos are illegal in Classic.  The pistol grip must come up to the belt for Classic.

Once again Camille is correct. Page 12 bottom of SASS handbook " No buscadero or drop loop holster rigs allowed." The company that made my holster makes a straight belt that will work with my holster (look just like the other one without the drop loop). I will use the drop when hunting and the straight when with the club. Thx.

That's correct by my read.  You can use in any but "Classic Cowboy".  I've got a triple K rig I use for knockin' about the place when I only want one gun and I'm trying to get something done other than just shootin'.  Fine rig.  Truth be known it is probably a whole lot closer to "authentic" than say my Balck Hills Bandito Rig I wear to matches.  Delmonico could probably clarify on that though.

OK, I stand corrected, but don't be swayed.  Triple K does have strait belts as well.  If your shooting with a local club, look around, I don't think it is going to matter too much unless you are shooting a SASS sanctioned match.  I know many in our local matches that wear Buscadero rigs and it is no problem.  Don't let that get between you and steel.

Thx Slim,

The Triple K straight is $49.00. However, I am checking into the only group in my area (Canadian River Regulators), and will find out what they do. I do like they looks of this rig; plain with a bot of brass.Again thx to all for the quick responses.

That holster will fit most belts up to 2 3/4". I don't know what pistol you are intending on using, however I have a KKK double loop and it's a little big for my Vaquero (bigger frame), but it won't fall out.

I see double buscadero rigs all the time at local shoots, except for the Classic Cowboy class where it is outlawed by the rules.

Unless you shoot CC, you can use your new rig at a SASS shoot, you can even add a cross draw holster to use as a weak side holster if you want.

Thx everyone,

I will be using my Uberti .45 cal Cattleman with this rig. I have another question. Do you use the cowboy loads (.45)? What grain also, 200? Thx again

Lazy K...started out using 200 gr bullets in the .45s then went down to 280s then down to 160s.  Substanstial savings there when you shoot a lot.
