Thanks pard. Great footage there.

I thought I had heard somewhere that Oakley used her thumb to work the trigger on her long guns, but she used her index finger in that footage.

I wonder if she was using bullets or shot loads in that scene?  When Buffalo Bill started his Wild West show, with Annie they started the first performance with solid bullets for shooting at ariel targets!  :o  It dawned on them (fortunately before anyone was hurt) that the crowd was in serious danger from an errant shot.  So, they switched to shot loads in their rifles and pistols, with smoothbore barrels. NOT because they couldn't hit the glass balls with bullets, but for safety.
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

A talented shooter, she won a local shooitng match outshooting a touring exhibition shooter, and later the two would be married and continue exhibition shooting.  That is likely Frank Butler in the movie.  They would have practiced their routines until they were able to do them without failure.

She and Frank won many gold medals in competition.  These medals were donated to orphanages as they were indeed gold and the money was used for the children.  A wonderful couple who brought a lot of entertainment to folks.

This recent article tells about how she almost lost her life in a train wreck in North Carolina.
