HOT off the work bench..........
« on: November 24, 2010, 10:37:48 PM »

Thought ya'll might like to see my latest conversion..........

This is a 1st model Dragoon of the Second Generation Colt series.

It now sports a Walker Kirst conversion (took a bit of coaxing to get it in there)

The cartridges hold 55 grains of Swiss 3f under a 250 grain bullet ;D

Busy Busy, BUSY!
September and October we did back to back National and World horse shows and were gone from the ranch for over 30 days straight! Still playing catch up............

With the cold weather setting in (over 40 degree drop since yesterday) I am starting to find time to work on guns ;D

Hey, that's a really nice Howitzer!!  Once you get the limber and trails built, it'll be fun to shoot.  How large a Crew??

Howdy HH,

Great looking job. You'll have to issue a shooting report and let us know what problems you had to overcome during the conversion. I currently have a 3rd model dragoon (with shoulder stock) that I'm seriously considering for a gated conversion. Any hints, thoughts or secrets you wish to pass along would be appreciated greatly.

Outstanding hogleg and i'll bet it's a slobberknocker too!  I have a couple of fence destroying wild hogs i'd like to try it out on.  Again great pistol, it's a work of art.

A sawed-off skeleton key with a leather stampede string would be great for ejecting spent cases. ;)

Thanks for the thumbs up!
Of course my first thought is that a "3rd model dragoon (with shoulder stock)" with a conversion installed would be a SBR!

Don't forget your Form 1....

The pistol is much milder to shoot than you would expect. Seriosly a HOOT and a real pussycat at the same time.

Howdy HH,

Allow me to display my ignorance. What is an SBR? Also What is a Form 1? (Some BATF required paper work no doubt.)

Any input would be appreciated. I don't want to run afoul of the "Jackbooted Government Thugs".

Thanx

How does the cartridge compare to the 45-60WCF?

That is one nice conversion.  Like Flint, I am interested in what cartridge case you used.  It always seemed to be a download to convert a Walker to fire .45 Colt or heaven forbid a Schofield.

Reb Holister

It's getting better every time I take 'er out!
The mechanism was a bit cantankerous at first but that is now sorted out (had Raven and I both comparing notes). We ran a couple of cylinders full though 'er today and it shoots quite a bit low (not much front sight there to lower so I think I'll have to do some head scratching for sure)!

I have never had so much fun shooting BP in my life (almost worth the cleanup) ::)

Wart Hog.....bahhaha.....we're talking a whole herd here ;D

Hey Hoof, could you shoot Ten-X, Ultramax, or Black Hills cowboy action ammo in that gun?
A work in progress.
