« on: July 01, 2005, 10:02:37 AM »
Allright, I've taken the plunge and sent in my memberhsip application and paid my money (to whoever checks those things out, you'all should have it by now! :)). I'm slowly striking out in the NCOWs direction...hey Joss House, would it be alliright at some point to throw in with your possee for an event? The pictures on your site look pretty cool!

I can't say it any better than St. George already did!

Welcome, pard!

By the way, I like your Scottish alias.  If it IS an alias. ;)  I suppose it COULD be Irish, tho.  Do I win the prize?  My better half is from Scotland.  Wonderful people and a very beautiful country!

Happy Trails!     Jeff  "Steel Horse Bailey"

Not to worry- I'm a pretty patient guy (hey, work for a government agency- I'm used to things taking awhile... ;)). As for my alias- I stole the last name off my wife Karin- it just sounded a lot better than mine which is Lid (I know- it's an Americanization of something Norwegian). It does have a distinct ring...My wife quite adamently claims that the McKechnie name is Scots and NOT Irish  ;D :D. Well, who knows which side of the Irish Sea the McKechnies landed on but I can tell you that the McKechnie tartan is the UGLIEST tartan ever done- lime green, pale yellow, and something else. Kind of like something one of my cats coughs up on occassion! :P

A pard of mine (one who I'm working on for NCOWS) and I used to do a cheesy merchant impression of "McKechnie & Whitman" that we'd occassionally do at Ft. Tejon (we actually made it on Huell Howser's California's Gold) and we used to print up bogus gold stock certificates and give them out to the visitors and other reenactors. The funny thing was for some time afterwards I'd have reenactors come up to me wanting to "talk about the gold strike on the upper Kern River that never materialized"...all in the spirit of fun. For awhile there the name McKechnie was spread far and wide...

As we say, we're sutlers, we're here to help....

Welcome to NCOWS, Angus.
My great grandmother was a McDonald/McEvoy from Nova Scotia (New Scotland). Angus is a very popular Scotland first name.

Welcome to the camp, Angus, and proud to have you. You've just joined an organization full of great pards.

Anything you need, just ask (well, ... within reason, of course).  ;)

And IMHO, you've got the right idea hooking up with Joss' outfit. From what I've seen they won't lead you wrong.

O.K., can anyone convince my horse to not be such an idiot at times?  ;D There's days when he's a joy to ride and work with and there's other days when he's acting like a 1500 pound teenager with an attitude. Jeeze.... :-[

Brain transplant? Hmmmm...it's an idea.... ;D

On the flip side, it's not a good thing for my horse to use his imagination and creativity- it can be quite scary. His most recent stunt is to get the horse in the stall next to him to pull off his fly mask...and then he pulls off the other horse's fly mask. A couple of real rocket scientists at work. Horses,,,I don't know how me managed in the West with all the stuff they get into.  ::)

Of course I know people who are far dumber than my horse....Darwin just ahsn't caught up with them yet!  :D

Obviously, they don't like their fly masks. Better to have flies in yer eyes than look through mesh.  ::)
