Go to matches....
LOTS
of matches....and talk to people. Get the feel for what it is and what you want to do with it.
Stay flexible. You'll change as time goes by.
Be safe, have fun, shoot well.

This sport is a great excuse to buy lots of guns! You will have the pleasure of acquiring at least three sets of firearms before you settle down. If you can't afford all this luxury, read a lot, and talk to experienced pards extensively BEFORE you start spending money.

I am also new and have a question... Do you have to be affiliated with a side club in order to attend matches or just to compete? if so whats the best way to find a club for you?....this is what i heard i guess it could be incorrect...

Colton; Welcome to the world of cowboy action shooting.
Find your local gunclub, and your favorite gunshop and start asking around. Contact both the Single action shooting society, SASS and the National Congress of Old West Shootists, NCOWS. These are the two main umbrella organizations and can put you in contact with the closest clubs. While surfing cascity, note the locations of some of the members who choose to state where they are situated. Or, ask right here; I'm in _____state, city etc., and someone will respond.
Here are the links to get you started;
