Marlin 1894CB in .357/.38
« on: October 20, 2009, 10:56:38 PM »
Is it difficult to make the 1894cowboy run good with .38s ? Being a straight walled case , is blow back any issue at all in a .38 when loaded with black powder ?

If one opts to no go .38/.357, how does the '94cowboy run with .45colts using black powder ?

Another question ? Why does SASS catagories,,I 'think' its classic cowboy, make one used a '73 or earlier rifle to be legal,,,and not allow a Marlin,,when the Marlin is actually an orginal techonology rifle  and NOT a replica ?

Sounds a bit like making one use a Ruger and not allowing a Colt principle ??

No picking, I just do not understand that line of thought. I have a '73, so it dont matter beans to me   really,,,I just like Marlin guns better than Italian repos. I like Marliln guns better than REAL Winchesters.

I've never had any problem with my Marlin Cowboy 38/357. I've run 125gr .38 to 158gr .357 without a hitch, plus no blow back issues with BP. I did have it slicked up a little and the Marlin bump fixed, always ran smooth. The .45 is always gonna create some blow back in a rifle, but not as much in a Marlin. I prefer the 44/40.

As for why SASS has done some of the things they do is always a good question. Best I can tell it's thier fantasy sport/game, seems to me CC should be a BP category. But then again I've sometimes wondered why is the earth round?? :D ;D

44-40 takes a back seat to no other caliber
