Long about 1954 my dad and three of his friends, all members of the Lions Club, started a "fun band" and ended up playing all kinds of events around Cache valley.  One played (IIRC) a squeeze box, one played fiddle, one played guitar and banjo, and dad played jugs, washboard, spoons, a "tubba" ( single string wash tub cello), bones, cowbells, sleigh bells, triangle, combs, trash can lid 'gong', and did that thigh-slapping thing.  They had a great time for  couple of years.

I wish I did.

They got going sometimes and sounded like Spike Jones.  They all sang and Dad had the dangedest array of "stuff" you ever saw.  He had clickers (aka crickets) several whistles, wood blocks, a kid's toy xylophone, a rack of water pipes cut to different lengths, some rubber bulb horns, bicycle bells, you name it.  If you could get a noise out of it, Dad would try to include it....., and that "tubba" thrumming away making music.
