Ben McCulloch (1811-1862) followed David Crockett to Texas and fought in the Battle of San Jacinto. He became a legislator and a Texas Ranger. During the Mexican-American War, he led a company of scouts. Commissioned a brigadier general in the Confederate Army, he was killed at the Battle of Pea Ridge.
