French Jack's Peabody
« on: September 12, 2009, 10:56:14 AM »
Finally got to these pard, been a busy week.

"Here are some pics of the barrel and receiver of a Peabody Rifle that Providence Tool is building for me.  Jim Downing did the engraving. "

We'll let him do the explaining, and I hope he names it "Mr. Peabody."

Thanks, Del.  The receiver and lock, etc., are being case hardened, the barrel blued, and then the rifle assembled, the barrel is 28", a  Badger#3 tapered octagon, caliber 38-56 WCF.,,stock is curly maple with a straight grip.  Sights are a Lyman model 21 rear, and a Marbles Ivory bead blade for the front.  Swivel bases are for the Winchester hook style.  I'll get some pics when I get my hands on it, should be in the next couple weeks or less.

I can hardly wait,  get a load worked up and sighted in in time for deer season. ;D

Howdy French Jack,
Man that is sweet!!! Where is Jim Downing at? I had talked to some engraver about my new High Wall that will be ready to put together in a couple months or so! I like your engraving very much! The guy I talked to, said he could do like $200.00 worth of engraving at a time, and everytime i got a couple hundred extra, he would do some more untill we got what we wanted.
If you don't want to mention Jim Downing, if you can pm me?
Real Nice Rifle :o :o :o :o
Can't wait to see iy done.

Ace-- Jim Downing has a website--- http://www.thegunengraver.com  ... he is located in Missouri.

John Boy-- Definitely going to shoot it.  Should be a primo deer rifle.
