Thanks Drydock for the additional info.  I'm still in the research stage.  The web site was just one of many sources I was reading and reviewing.

The Jodpurs are not in my future. My only option is contact the folks at Fort Worth Tent and Awning to fabricate me something.

A bit of necromancy here.

Are there still active Spanish American War groups around? I've been climbing the net and it appears most groups are now defunct.

Yes, I have been doing that for a decade or more. I need a new schtick.

I don't know how up to date this information is, but one of the contact people on this page may be able to point you to an operational unit.

Hi

That would be interesting, but I haven't seen anything around here (Oklahoma) that is in that era.  I haven't checked the net, but from what I saw AEF Supply had given up a little a couple of years ago.

Grenadier, I know of one outfit that will be meeting in Nebraska in late June that would welcome your SAW efforts..... ;) Although it's not SAW exclusive!

There was recently an event in Parsons, KS, and there's a Belleau Wood event in TX next month.  Probably not super close to you, but there are events going on in the region.  If you're on Facebook, check out the Midwest Great War Association.

As for supply sources, What Price Glory and Man the Line seem to be the two main players in town.  WPG just released a new, affordable M1912 US uniform that seems pretty good.

On topic: There are a couple of Facebook pages for Spanish American War reenacting, but not many, and their activity seems pretty limited.  Not sure how many active "units" there are for that period.

Hi

I noticed that Schipperfabrik has gone out of business.  I don't know how old they are, or health, but the 100th anniversery seems an inopportune time to get out of the business.

They got bought out by Man the Line.  Heard they kinda ran their business into the ground with poor customer service and long wait times.

Very poor customer service.  I tried a half a dozen times to order some in stock items.  They were on clearance and no matter what I could not get them to email me a cost.  I even spoke to Heather several times on the phone and nothing.  Can's stay in business if you don't sell stuff.

I purchased three items from them (a Marine Corps poncho, shirt, and 1912 Khaki Uniform).  I was pleased with the quality on them and the delivery time on the uniform (custom cut, IIRC) was reasonable.  I did have a fit issue and got a bad vibration from Mr. Schipper.  Turns out the fit issue was partially a small error on their part and part a wearing error on mine.  He was VERY defensive and did not take any of my questions or comments seriously.  I was pretty put off by the whole thing.  I figured out the problems myself.

On the plus side, they provided me with a yard of khaki fabric so I could make a khaki hat cover for a bell crown hat.  It took some talking but once they figured out I wasn't trying to cheat them or compete with them it was cool.

Nice stuff, but if it's "too hard" to buy nobody will.

G.

I had the same experience with Schipper at first.  They had very good products, many that no one else was selling at the time and the best prices when you got through the attitude.  The 1912 uniform they made for me is every bit as good as the originals, maybe better.  After I learned how to deal with her, Heather could be helpful and almost friendly.  She told me they were selling out because they couldn't compete with the cheap Chinese products flooding the market.  All that having been said they screwed up my last order just before they sold out to Man the Line and it took two calls and several e-mails get my refund.

I've been working on a 1910 German Hauptmann's uniform for this years Grand Muster, EEM, if your into doing the Hun, theses guys have great products and first rate customer service:

http://www.hessenantique.com/

Oh, and by the way, the base uniform came from China, on Ebay.  Custom made, first class wool and fast service.  Couldn't ask for much more.

Bat, do you mean you got the uniform from Hessen, or you got the "base uniform" elsewhere and added items from Hessen? If there's another supplier out there, I'd like to check if they make any French gear.

There's not many catering to the French side of the hobby.

Yeah, seems everyone wants to be German, or American-none of those other guys really mattered, did they?

I liked that Schipper offered quite a bit of French items, but unfortunately, I couldn't afford buying a whole outfit at his price at one time.

This is a link to the place that did my uniform.  I don't see any French uniforms listed in his store right now.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/WWI-GERMAN-EMPIRE-M1910-OFFICER-GABARDINE-JACKET-CUSTOM-TAILORED-MADE-32528/361227557819?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D36188%26meid%3D13a415c7125d4667978d31af254c115b%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D231491435791

I couldn't bring my self to portray a frog, too many bad experiences with them in my personal past.

I did find this place out of Singapore that appears to do French WW 1 uniforms, I don't know anything about them, but the price is good.
