.44 Special Schofield????

Has any outfit (either currently or recently) built a modern top-break revolver that will fire the .44 S&W Special cartridge?
It seems Navy Arms did a #3 many moons ago, but I can find no evidence of it. 
I must've had brain fade.

What about the Navy Arms Russian?  It is in 44 Russian but I would think the cylinder would be long enough to be recut to the 44 spl.

FWIW: My smith has the chambers of my Uberti Russian opened to shoot .44 Colt.
As Will says it should be no problem to push that one step further and open the chambers for the .44 Special.

I think I can still order a Uberti #3 Russian. 
Reckon they are the ones marketed by Taylor's.

The relevant length of the cylinder of my Uberti Russian is 1.5085 in/38,32 mm.
That should be sufficient for .44 Special cartridges. And if you reconsider you ammo preferences later you can always load .44 Colt and/or .44 Russian.
One caveat: you might need some time to getting used to the tiny rear sight of the Russian(compared to the Schofield).
One suggestion: no matter if you pick the Uberti Russian or the Schofield, remove the "lawyer safety" before you start shooting. That will improve the trigger pull immediately.

I see Taylors & Co is advertising them in #3-2nd model and #3 Russian [both in .44 Russian].
I may be putting an order in.

By relevant length, do you mean the length of the cylinder or the distance from the front of the cylinder to the frame?  If the former, then mechanically you should be able to modify the cylinders to accept .44 special as long as the bullet did not extend more than .4085 in beyond the end of the case.   If the latter, then the bullet would be limited to extending .3485 in.
