Cowboy Alias question
« on: July 16, 2009, 02:43:26 PM »
I'm trying to come up with a "cowboy alias." Since I may eventually have to come up with a full back story on my character, I figured I might as well see what the reactions are among members of this community to the following ideas I've come up with:

1). K-Bob
2). The Cockroach Kid
3). Padeye

At the risk of sounding like some marketing yuppie doing consumer product research, do either of these names sound like they don't fit the genre? Do either of these limit me to a specific type character type? Do either of these sound just plain stupid?

For the record, I am *not* a yuppie of any kind! Also, I know that if I use the second choice sooner or later people will start calling me cockroach (or worse) for short. <grin>

Yer takin this waaaaay to serious.

Ya don't NEED a back story, but even if ya want one, it can be as fanciful as a dime novel or true history.  Either way works.

"The cockroach kid" is a funny alias if yer a bug killer in yer "other" life.  We got every kind of alias under the sun in CAS.  I once asked "Doc Silverfinger" if he was a proctologist ;)  I dunno if he thought the question was funny or not, but he deadpanned "Nope, other end, dentist".  it's all good.

First of all, welcome to the madness  ;D

AJ's right, if you think you gotta work at any part of this, it might not be the right hobby for you.  :D

I just kept the nickname they called me in the Navy, easy to remember. Most serious alias I have is William (Bill) French, which is nothing more than the fully Anglicized form of my real name.

OMG! Look at the post number!

Ed: It was 666 - eeeek!  :o
Yours, &c.,

Don't worry. I'm not being too serious. If I was I wouldn't post this in public and set myself up for ridicule and abuse. Truth is, sometimes I chose "stupid" just because it's fun. But I at least like to know ahead of time that it's stupid.

<big grin>

"Padeye" was my call sign in the Navy as well. They called me that "because it's the lowest thing on the flight deck."

I'm new to this as well, so I don't know for sure myself. Check in "The Darksider's Den" (http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/board,19.0.html) for questions specific to Cap and ball pistols. They're focused on that in that particular forum.

kflatch,

Padeye has a good ring to it but more importantly a history behind it that should serve you well.  Anybody can make up a name, but yours was bestowed upon you and nobody else.   ;D

"Doc Silverfinger" a dentist. Makes sense. I used to shoot regularly with "Doc One Eye". He was a proctologist. :D I also shoot occasionally with "Doc Tetons". He's a reconstructive plastic surgeon. Tetons is French for....!! ;)

My favorite alias belongs to a pard.  "Mattel Sackett", who is aka "The Toy Cowboy".
