Customized Opentop pics
« on: May 10, 2009, 08:17:07 PM »
No, it is NOT my gun.   :)  It was a special order .44 Opentop for Colonel Hacker.  I reassembled it before it shipped and snapped a few pics to share with the STORM pards, cuz I know we all like looking at nice guns.  Engraving is by Yves Halliburton of Savannah Gun Works (SASS alias: Have A Bourbon).  He does most of the engraving for Cimarron.  Case hardening by Classic Guns.  Charcoal Blue by a Texas shop that does contract work for Cimarron.  Action job by Robert Taylor.  The pictures don't do justice to the grips.  These grips came as standard, which was VERY unusual, on an 1860 Army percussion gun which shipped to a customer.  There was some minor cosmetic issue, I think a scratch on the cylinder, and the customer returned the gun and wanted his money back.  The grips on that gun were replaced with some scratched ones and that gun was sent to be antiqued.  These grips are not a perfect fit to the frontstrap but not bad and I don't think the customer will mind  :D

Enjoy.

BWAHAAA!  Too bad the gun wasn't shipping to New York, gotta shoot one round out of those and send the shell.  Stupid NY law but at least gives an excuse to shoot some of them  :D

Howdy Coffinmaker,
Yes, those are available.  They're out of the .44 Spcl, but you could have them ream the .44 Colt model if you want it to chamber all three .44's.

As for parts, the cylinders are likely available, and I think I saw a single 4 3/4" .44 barrel, don't know if there's more than one.

Abilene,

You waz right!! There was "one" 4 3/4 inch .44 barrel in the bin.  Not any more, as it's on it's merry way to ME!!  Wheeeeeeee.

Now, that was "one" barrel.  Anybody have a 4 3/4 inch open top barrel in .44 that's surplus to requirements??  Or you just don't like it??

Anyone??

Tricky Ol Russ, New York wants that empty shell for the firing pin "signature" on the primer.  So when a gangbanger uses his Opentop to shoot a convenience store clerk and then stops to eject the empty brass on the floor before running off, the lab can match the primer indentation to the one they have on file (because all gangbangers buy their guns legally through dealers, don't you know?).  I've seen reports that these empty casing ID programs are a HUGE waste of taxpayer money (millions) and not at all effective, but they keep doing it.  ???

Major 2, I heard that Col. Hacker is a gunwriter, but know nothing more than that.

Coffinmaker, I'm pretty sure you own a hacksaw, don'cha?  :D

Abilene,

You betcha!!!  I hand cut dovetails for front sights too.  Twould be nice to have the barrels match though.  At least for this project!!
