Uberti 45-75 vs. 50-95 problems
« on: February 01, 2009, 09:00:07 PM »
Hello, can anybody tell me if there are problems with the Uberti 50-95's like some of the 45-75's. I have a 45-75 and am looking for a 50-95 to go with it. I have sent my 76 back and they are putting a new barrel on it because of a chamber problem. Just wondering if the 50-95's are having any trouble. I have read a lot of things on this site and figured this would be the place to ask fellow shooters.

I've had my Taylor's Uberti .50-95 since November, but just received my dies last week, so I have not fired it yet.  But based on visual inspection and chambering full length sized Ten-X brass brass, I see no problems.   But groove diameter varies on these ???  They are cited by Uberti as .510", but mine measures .513".  I've got CH4D sending me a new .512" expander plug (dies come with a .509" plug) this week.

Hope to get to the range in the next week or so.

What kind of chamber problem did you have, can you be specific? I know the chamber dimensions are different for the .50-95 Uberti and .50-95 Winchester, wonder if they were off on the . 45-75 as well?    ???

I bought a Uberti in 45-75 and the chamber was a whole bunch different than the original but problem is being rectified. Except for the chamber dim. problem everything else was OK. I did not know Uberti 76's in 50-95 were different than the originals, glad you said something because i was looking at one on gunbroker. I think I might look into a Chapparal and see if any better or any worse. Love that big actioned 76 how about you.

I went to the range today and fired 55 rounds through my Uberti .50-95.  These were loaded with 80 gr. Goex FG and a 300 gr bullet.  The rifle functlioned flawlessly ;D

The .50-95 is a gem. Mine is a Chaparral with a 28" barrel. Ive shot close to 600 rounds through it now without a hitch. Im using both 5744 and Triple 7. The Chappy chamber is dimensionally the same as the origional >50-95 Win, it does vary from the Uberti chambering. BUT, I wouldnt let that keep me from getting either one. I dont full length size, I set the die back to deprime and size 1/4" of the neck only. Im thinking of not resizing the brass at all, just depriming it and giving it a good crimp. Ill post when I get some loaded this way and shoot for accuracy. Dont know about the other makes, but my two Chappies are real accurate- they use some great barrels.

By the way, Farrow, CDNN still has the Chaparrals for $699, best price I could find on a new gun. Thats where my .50-95 came from. Great folks to deal with. Had it in less than a week.
