Roping cuffs

Just finished this pair of Roping Cuffs using a Will Ghormley pattern.  They are constructed from 8/9 oz. leather, and the roll is split pig skin.

    Very nice Wily, I can sure tell this isn't your first rodeo Pard, these cuffs are beautiful, is that deer skin lining or pig, the color compliments the dark brown very nicely, and the big W looks right at home, your tooling and carving really stand out, all I can say beyond what I've already said is WELL DONE Pard. ::) :o 8)

Those look great, Wiley. Nice work. The contrasting colors really work, too. They look like they would be really comfortable with that lining. Thanks for the pic.

I have to agree Wiley, those are awesome!! On your first few post, I thought man this is working 20hrs a day trying to learn the leather game, I don't think so ;D Those Are awesome!!

Hi, I have a question regarding the USE of Cowboy Roping Cuffs by actual cowboys who rope steers and such.  Are the cuffs JUST for protecting the forearm from rope burn, barbed wire etc or do they help with wrist support?  I'm making a second pair for a friend at work and he never bought his own cuffs, he's been riding more than 20 years.  He doesn't want decoration because the carving would hold dust.  Since no carving, I could go with lighter leather and they might fit better. 

I know most specify 9 ounce of heavier leather.  Any opinions?

Raising the dead, but the corpse is still kind of fresh...

They weren't designed for wrist support - they were designed to protect both the forearm as well as the shirt sleeve itself.

They were stiff as an aid in deflection for grass ropes and rawhide riatas, as well as heavy brush.
