Welcome to our forum Chuck, it looks like you're off to a great start pard, this holster really is looking good, as Dalton and Johnny said , we'll look forward to seeing it finished, and getting your makers mark was a good idea, you'll be able to mark all your work, I wish I would have done this too.

Howdy, Chuck. That holster is first rate. Nice use of the camo stamp for a border. It'll be a good-looking holster.

Welcome to the forum. Looking forward to your posts.

You've got a good skill set going from something to be that good on your first holster. Nice work, and welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the compliments fellers!  Being a poor boy, I have made most everything I ever wanted for most of my 64 years. Even when I could afford something it seems I end up making one just to get it the way I want it.
More later, Chuck

PS, That stitching pony fits in my bench vice. I spread a sheet out to keep things clean and to prevent the thread from catching on everything. I do everything from machine work to schrimshaw in my shop and it`s kinda hard to keep dirt off of a project like a holster after you just overhauled a lawnmower engine in the same area.  :o ;D ;D

You said the magic word: Schrimshaw. Anyone with the patience and skill to do that has developed skills that will serve him well making holsters

I got ready to go hunting early and have a little time so...

Here are a couple pictures of my 3rd 4th 5th holsters. I just wet molded then yesterday and they have no finish treatment on them yet, just stained and stitched. I am thinking EVOO, what do you think? The stain is a gun stock
Spirit stain from Laurel Mt. Forge. A mix of Walnut and Cherry that I use on Curley Maple gun stocks.

The pattern is one I modified from Will`s fine Jessey James pattern to make it a little more friendly (I hope) for Cowboy action shooting.

They are all the same. The angle of the photo makes them look different.

Two right hand and one cross draw.

  Howdy Chuck 100 yd

Very nice or should I say super nice for your first holsters, you can be proud of what you have made here, nice color good design and beautiful stitching, your choice of stamping for your border is just the right amount, I use this pattern for borders also, it always looks nice. I think IMHO, that EVOO, would be great as a finish oil, and will oxidize well over time.

Ten Wolves  , Thanks for the kind words.
I will be diving deeper into this craft soon. I just received my HOG patterns from friend Will and the challenge will be to learn how to carve and stamp that beautiful design he has given us.
More to come from me. I cant wait to see more from you guys. Keep up the good work!  :)

Nice work on those, Chuck. They look very good. I agree with TW about the EVOO being a good choice. A light coat followed by a little rubbing can do them justice.
